Mid-Century Modern Bar With OFMP

Sharing is caring!

I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited over a project as I am with this Mid-Century Modern Bar using Old Fashioned Milk Paint  in Salmon.

While this is something I say often, this time I mean it!  This bar really took me out of my comfort zone, as I’ve never finished a mid-century piece. However, I’m so glad I did!

Here is my Mad Men inspired mid-century modern bar:

This post is sponsored by Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. in the form of paints and contains affiliate links.  Although this post is sponsored all the opinions are my own. I only promote product I believe in!

You see the gorgeous handle on the drawer from D. Lawless Hardware ? It is a bottle opener! I was very proud of myself with this idea. You can have everything in one place and never have to search for the bottle opener again.

Of course my new favorite thing is to line the sides of the drawers.  I found some hip-totally Mad Men inspired-paper for the side:

Here is the before:

I found this piece at my favorite thrift store for $8.  Most of my pieces are found at thrift stores, flea markets or from my Dad. I am very cheap thrifty when looking for pieces.

Usually, I will not pay more than $20, unless it’s something extraordinary.  The second I saw this I thought of Mad Men.  This was a show I loved, partly because I started out at 18 yo working in a law firm.

While it was the 80’s, the Attorney I worked for was in his 70’s and the office was very Mad Men inspired.  The women had to wear skirts-no pants allowed.

Also, when he came in he did hand his coat & hat to his secretary to hang up.  She had been his secretary for 30 years and that’s just how it was.

She also brought him his coffee & smoked at her desk. Thankfully those days have changed. But mid-century modern pieces are still so very cool.

I wanted to go with a bold color and keep the clean lines of this piece.  Look at this gorgeous OFMP Salmon color:

This is prior to finishing with Daddy Van’s Beeswax in lavender. Can you believe you can also use this on your lips and dry skin? And the stuff smells amazing.

This is what I used to transform this Bar:

The entire piece received two coats of Salmon paint mixed with OFMP Extra Bond.  If you don’t use the Extra Bond the paint will chip.  While this is great for chippy pieces, I knew I wanted a smooth finish, so I added equal amounts  of paint and Extra Bond.

Here is the piece after I finished it with Daddy Van’s.  It does darken it and gives it such a beautiful finish.

I just love the look of the hardware and look at this cool piece I was lucky enough to find for $2 at a flea marketOFMP_SALMON

The lady selling it thought it had been used in a library? I immediately saw wine rack-although that tends to happen often ;).  I had this in my closet for weeks when I had one of those light bulb moments.

I checked to see if it would fit in my Mad Men beauty & sure enough it did-love when that happens.

Finally, I gave it a coat of OFMP in Snow White to match the legs and sat down with a glass of Sangria to admire this Mid-Century Modern Bar that even Don Draper would be proud to have in his home. Ahh, cheers! 🙂
