Nautical Striped Side Table Makeover

Sharing is caring!

Welcome to this month’s Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest. This month’s sponsor is Plaid/Mod Podge and we are helping them celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Mod Podge! The theme for this challenge is Garden Treasures. You are probably familiar   with Mod Podge, but in the off chance you aren’t, it really is a crafters best friend. Mod Podge is the number one, all-in-one glue, sealer and finish perfect for decoupage projects!

Nautical Striped Side Table Makeover Our Crafty Mom

For this challenge, I decided to use a roadside find that my Dad gave me, to create a nautical striped side table. This little table was in bad shape with peeling veneer and scratches. Because of this, I knew it would be perfect to give a makeover with fabric. I did have to do a little repair work first, but it was my hope that the thickness of the fabric would cover any unevenness in the table top. Here is the before:

And the after:

What do you think? Just a little improvement, right? I am so happy with how this little nautical table turned out! This would be a perfect piece to use on a covered porch or deck as a side table. The nautical theme is so popular right now and I love that this can be used indoors or out. The navy and white stripe is such a classic look. Here is an easy tutorial:

After I gave the table a good cleaning and repaired the peeling veneer on the bottom shelf, I gave it a white wash with chalk paint. I wanted it to be a distressed paint finish as I felt it would blend with the nautical look I was going for.

Next, I cut the fabric to size for both shelves using Mod Podge to adhere it. The Mod Podge worked like a dream with this fabric. I gave it a second coat after the first dried.

Finally, attach the rope trim to the front of the shelves and you are done! This was such an easy makeover but I really love how it turned out! It is a very versatile piece and the navy and white is classic enough that I don’t think it will go out of style any time soon.

I love this nautical piece! I am curious...how would you clean a mod podge tabletop? Is there a special method?

So nice seeing you at Haven last week! Hope you are all rested up. :)
