REFINISHED THRIFT STORE MIRROR/READING CORNER

Sharing is caring!

I showed the refinished footstool in my last post, but was unable to show the full reading corner because I had to finish this awesome mirror first.

All you home decorators know when you have a vision in mind you can not sleep until you have it finished! I have been wanting a reading area in my living room since we moved here & the rocking chair that I was using just wasn’t comfortable enough.

I have long admired the IKEA Ektorp line of furniture that I see all over the beautiful blogs & now that my kids are grown I was able to get the white chair that I have been wanting & the best thing is the slipcover is washable! I set it up in the corner of the living room by the fireplace.

As I do a lot of reading at night, I knew lighting was important. I had this black reading lamp that wasn’t being used and it fits perfectly!

I found the mirror at a thrift store for $12.50 on half-price Wednesday. Here is the before:

It wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, but I knew chalk paint would totally update it. I used Americana Chalk Paint in Serenity. I wanted some of the wood to show through, so just gave it a light wash with the blue. I love how it turned out. It fits perfectly in the space above the chair.

I hung a Spring wreath that I quickly put together with forsythia stems & a couple bird nests.

I also picked up the faux fur rug at IKEA. I am kind of on a fur kick lately!

Add a beautiful throw-mine is from Burlington Coat Factory & it was only $12.99. It is the softest blanket ever & I love the pop of color  in contrast to the white, a pillow-mine is from https://www.craftberrybush.com, somewhere to put my glass of wine 😉 & I
am good to go! Don’t forget the cozy
fire on those cold New England nights.
