As you know, the countdown begins for Amanda’s Graduation. I know I received a lot of inspiration from so many talented ladies on Pinterest and hope sharing my projects inspires someone else. I wanted to hang a wreath on the front door to greet guests as they come to celebrate. I saw a similar wreath & loved the idea of showcasing class photos through the 12 years. So bittersweet to see how much they change from year to year. I used a grapevine wreath & mounted the photos on designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! I added a little burlap banner. Happy Friday!
Archives for May 2014
I continued in the backyard and have lots of DIY projects that I did prior to my blog. First I hung a mosquito net over my hammock. Not sure if it keeps Mosquitos out, but it sure looks pretty!
I have lots to share so thought I would do two posts to make it easier. First I worked on the back deck. I picked up this set on clearance at Target last year & love it. It is made really well & makes this space feel like an outdoor living room.
As I’ve mentioned before, my youngest is graduating high school in 4 short weeks and will be leaving for College 3 hrs away shortly after. Anyone who has experienced this understands how bittersweet this is. This is what we have worked for and what we want for our children, but at the same time not having them in the same house or zip code for that matter is a huge change. I have faith that her Dad & I have raised her to make the right choices. Anyway, my daughter loved, loved Fairy’s when she was little. She had collected the Winx Club dolls & we watched the movies over & over. I also think there is something magical about them, so when I saw all the gardens on Pinterest I knew I would make one. It does bring back great memories. I asked Amanda what I should name the fairy & while she looked at me like I had seriously lost my marbles, she did say Annabel, which is perfect!
I’m really excited about this next project! Dare I say it is my new favorite! I was outside last night on my deck about 10 PM drilling holes as I knew I would not be able to sleep until I finished this. Please tell me I am not the only one like this?! This piece had been sitting in my garage for years. I had no idea what it was & even showed a pic on FB asking if anyone had any ideas. Finally I took a good look at it and thought the front piece looked like a window box, or could look like one. Here is the before:
My Dad built me a picnic table last year and it was in dire need of painting. It sits under trees and needed a pick me up. Here is the before picture:
We are all serious readers in our house, although the topics may be different, however we do have Harry Potter in common! I saw similar signs on Pinterest that were hung on a stake in the yard. This tree is visible from my top deck and I hung my hammock from it, so I thought it would be a good spot for some signs. I chose some of our favorite children’s books, Peter Pan, Narnia, Peter Rabbit (my fave as a kid) and Winnie the Pooh, along with Harry Potter. I liked the look of the old pieces of wood I had, so just gave them a quick brush of different paints and hand wrote the letters. They are fun & quirky! Happy Saturday!
