COASTAL DECORATING IN THE DINING ROOM

Sharing is caring!

As my townhouse has an open living/dining area, I like to have a cohesive flow, so I tend to stick with the same colors & decorating scheme throughout. I am amazed at how popular the coastal look is this year & not just for home decorating. My daughter works at Ann Taylor & that beautiful blue color is the color of the season. Not sure what it is called, some say seafoam or aqua, whatever it is, I just love it! I showed my beach themed bathroom here:
https://ourcraftymom.blogspot.com/2015/05/beach-inspired-bathroom.html & my coastal mantel here:
https://ourcraftymom.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-coastal-mantel.html
I previously refinished my dining room table using chalk paint by Americana in Serenity, so it was easy & inexpensive to incorporate a coastal/beach theme. I have a bakers rack in the corner, so I just updated this with various beach decor like this beautiful coral piece I found at Kohl’s for a steal! I picked up a bag of white rocks from
The Dollar Tree & used gorilla glue to make a heart on a scrap
piece of wood that I painted blue. A few candle holders, along with this gorgeous blue bottle from Michaels. I wanted some beach themed mugs to hang from the hooks on the bakers rack but didn’t want to spend a lot, so I made my own! I just did a tutorial on these if you want to make your own. I picked up sea glass also at Michaels & made a hanging wind chime for the large window. I also just posted a tutorial on this as I just loved how it turned out! I drive by Michaels on my way home from work everyday, so it is a little dangerous, lol, but I never pay full price. I always have either
a 40% or 50% off coupon and will run in & grab an item with it. It
is amazing the deals you can get. You see the cool ampersand?  I have had my eye on this for weeks. Last week it was 60% off plus I had a coupon for 15% off sale items! I am so in love with it. I also updated the old window I have hanging in the dining room with blue mason jars & fresh flowers. I saw this on an episode of Fixer Upper (my favorite show) & loved it! I like that I can change out the flowers for the different seasons. I made a quick paper banner to hang along the top of the window.  I am still loving the curtains
that I bought at Target, as well as the burlap ruffled runner I
showed here:
https://ourcraftymom.blogspot.com/2015/03/no-sew-burlap-runner.html
I used this old silver serving piece that I found at a thrift store for $3 to hold shells & added a cloche filled with larger shells to the top centerpiece.  A couple of glass candle holders filled with sand
& rocks complete the simple table centerpiece. I don’t like anything too fussy on the table, because this is our main eating area & I don’t want to have to take things off to sit down to dinner! Have a great week!
