DIY Cinder Block Lounger

Sharing is caring!

I had a bunch of old cinder blocks from a fire pit that I’m redoing, so I searched Pinterest to see if there were any ways to reuse them.  Sure enough, there were so many cool ideas. But the one that really stood out to me was a DIY Cinder Block Lounger.

I put this together myself in about 2 hours.

The most difficult part for me was carrying the 8ft posts to the back yard. Not easy with a bad back!

But there is always a great feeling of accomplishment when the project is finished.

Here is what you need to make your own cinder block lounger.

Supplies needed for a Cinder Block Lounger:

  • 4- 4x4x8 posts
  • 12-cinder blocks
  • Paint of your choice
  • Deep seating lounge cushion

How to Make a Cinder Block Lounger

This is so easy to make once you have the supplies. You can paint your cinder blocks any color you like, or leave them natural.

I went with black paint. The cinder blocks soak up the paint so be sure to use an outdoor spray paint with primer built-in.

Simply put 6 cinder blocks on each end about 7 feet apart on a flat surface.

Put the posts through the opening and add your cushion. Simple as that! Enjoy!

The cushion is from Ocean State Job Lot and it’s the perfect size. It is called a chaise lounge cushion.

You may be able to get more creative with your cushions. I don’t sew so I was limited with what I could use.

For the cost and ease of the project, I am very happy with how it turned out.

This could also be used around a fire pit and could easily sit 4 people. Use the side to hold drinks!

What do you think about this easy DIY cinder block lounger? Is it something you could see yourself making?

A colorful one would be great! I had a few left and made painted garden planters.

Do you think I could put my current flat outdoor lounge chairs on the blocks ? They don’t have legs and they are are to keep clean underneath so I’d like to lift them off the ground. Yours look great! Thanks!

Yes! In fact, my dad did that a few years back. He lives in the country and some of the backyard gets muddy. I'm not sure how many you would need, but he has had no issues. Good luck!

Hi Brenda. I used a rust oleum spray paint with primer in a gloss black. I did give it 3 coats and then a clear sealer. Hopefully it will hold up. It was so easy to put together and would look great against a wall to with back cushions. Thanks hope you give it a try!

Hi:) What type of paint did you use? How many coats? I always thought they wouldn't take paint all that great, but I love what you did!
