Make a fun and no-sew drop cloth kids play tent for under $20!

If you’ve visited Our Crafty Mom before you know I love a good thrifty project, so when Gina at The Shabby Creek Cottage mentioned a drop cloth challenge, I knew I wanted to be a part of it!

We all know how popular drop cloth projects are.  Just look at Pinterest and you will find thousands of things created with drop cloth.

I’ve shared projects previously where I used drop cloth to make pillows, curtains and even wreaths.

Here are photos to those:

I have a beautiful great niece who is turning One in August. She is such a little cutie and really brings so much happiness to our extended family.

I wanted to make something cool for her room and immediately thought of creating a little teepee for the corner of her room.

Teepee’s, or play tents, have become so popular and are all over Pinterest.

I purchased a 9 x 12 canvas drop cloth for $13.99 with a coupon.

Unfortunately, I do not sew-at all. I really wish I did! In Home Ec in high school I tried to make a skirt and ended up sewing the zipper on the bottom of the skirt-true story 🙂

I wanted to have as little cuts as possible and researched tutorials finding several no-sew ones that fit the bill.

I picked up 5 1x2x8 furring strips at Lowes. I did have them cut to 6′ as I wasn’t sure how tall the ceilings were and didn’t want it to be too tall to fit.

I used twine that I had on hand to attach the strips together basically just attempting to get them to stand in what looked like a teepee-hey I’m nothing but precise :)!

It really is just trial and error until it is secure and then you can arrange it how you like it. I found one pole in the back and two on each side really worked well.

Next I found the horizontal center using the seam of the canvas and attached it to the back leg of the teepee with a staple gun.

I added a few more staples and wrapped it around the other side of the teepee again using staples to hold it in place.

I knew I would be adding embellishments to cover any visible staples, so I wasn’t too concerned with this.

I trimmed off some excess canvas, but did leave enough so it could bunch on the floor. I plan to use the excess to make drop cloth flowers with hot glue.

I made these before on the lamp and wreath shown above. I was a little late getting this done, but plan to also add some pretty ribbon along the front to up the cute factor for a little girl!

I will update the photos when that’s done.

Here it is set up in my living room until her birthday arrives. I wanted to add something comfy for the floor of the teepee.

So I picked up faux fur sheepskin at Joann Fabrics and just cut it in a nice shape to fit inside.

I also borrowed my daughter’s sponge bob for this photo.
