How to Make a Mercury Glass Mirror From a Thrift Store Picture

Sharing is caring!

Learn how to turn a thrift store picture frame into a mercury glass mirror with a French poem wall art.

Today I’m very excited to share this awesome French script stenciled mercury glass wall art upcycled from a thrift store frame.

I was the lucky recipient of a Cutting Edge Stencil in a giveaway last month hosted by Casa Watkins  and the awesome ladies of the Create and Share Blogger Challenge.

I was able to choose the stencil that I wanted up to $50! How awesome is that?

I have always loved French graphics and was immediately drawn to this beautiful French poem.

However, there were so many beautiful stencils I had a tough time narrowing it down.

I received my order within a week, and not only did it come packaged great, but they also gave me two small free stencils that go perfectly with this French style!

Let me just say, I have been using stencils for years-you know the ones bought at the big box stores with a 40% off coupon?

Ladies, there is something to be said in buying a product from a company that specializes in that product.

You ready to see the before?

This was a $5 thrift store find:

First I gave the picture a couple of coats of spray paint using Krylon metallic chrome spray paint

I used vinegar to get the “mottled” effect of Mercury glass.

I then taped the stencil to the picture with painters tape and used a Gold paint pen to color in the stencil.

There was no bleeding at all, which has been a problem with stencils I have used in the past.

I’m so happy with how this turned out!

Here it is featured on Cutting Edge Stencils website. Of course, this totally made my day!
