How To Turn An Outdated Curio Into A Coastal Beauty

Sharing is caring!

Welcome!  If you have visited Our Crafty Mom before you know how much I love to refinish furniture.  I am also very thankful because my Dad finds a lot of pieces for me that are either free or very inexpensive from thrift stores or auctions. He actually picked up this lovely hanging curio cabinet a few months ago for $10.

I received product from Dixie Belle Paint in exchange for this post, however, all opinions are 100% mine.

It was really in great shape, but the oak just did not go with my decor, so I decided to give it a coastal makeover!

I love it so much now! It is so fresh and the coastal feel with the addition of wallpaper really fits in with my decor. Here is how I achieved this look.

I used two coats of Manatee Gray Chalk Mineral Paint letting it dry between each coat. This is the perfect gray and the paint goes on like a dream!

I had a wallpaper sample that I just adored and it fit perfectly in the back of the curio. I used Mod Podge Waterbase Sealer, Glue and Finish (16-Ounce), CS11302 Matte Finish to attach it to the curio. The wallpaper really adds great dimension and the coastal vibe I was going for.

I do plan to finish it with a clear wax later. I say it all the time, but I will say it again-the power of paint! Thanks for visiting Our Crafty Mom. Have a great day!

Do you have to sand down the piece prior to painting? I have a dining room table that I have put off doing because I don't have the time to sand it down.

The new color and the wallpaper sample in the background make this such a pretty new curio cabinet! What a great find for just $10. #HomeMattersParty
