EASY TIPS FOR DECORATING A CHRISTMAS TREE

If you are looking for Christmas Tree decorating ideas, you are in the right place! I've decorated over 100 trees in all shapes and sizes and have learned a few things. Here are my best tips!

CHOOSE A COLOR SCHEME

The first thing you want to do is choose a color scheme. Start with an inspiration piece, like ribbon or an ornament.

FLUFF AND SHAPE

Start from the inner branches and work your way outward. Wear gloves to protect your hands. Shape the tree by section starting from the bottom up.

DECORATE IN SECTIONS

If your tree is not pre-lit, add lights. Divide your tree in sections top, middle, and bottom. Style each section, starting from the top, and then work your way down.

STYLE WITH RIBBON

Use wired ribbon at least 2.5" wide to decorate your tree. Mix colors and textures. For a standard 7.5" tree I recommend at least 2-3 different types of ribbon. Cut the ribbon in strips to make decorating easier.

COMBINE A MIX OF ORNAMENTS

Mix ornaments with large and small, old and new. Larger ornaments can fill in the center gaps, smaller ones look best in the front hanging from the tips.

ADD PICKS AND FLORAL SPRAYS

Fill in any gaps on the tree with Christmas picks, floral stems and other embellishments to make the tree stand out.

DON'T FORGET THE TOP

Go with a traditional tree topper like an angel or star, or try something unique like a mix of picks and stems. You can also make a large bow out of ribbon with long stems flowing down the front and sides.

FINISH WITH A TREE SKIRT OR TREE COLLAR

You can't go wrong with a classic tree skirt, or if you want something a little modern, go with a tree collar. I have an article all about tree toppers to buy or DIY on ourcraftymom.com that you may want to check out.
