Today I’m excited to show you these Natural Blue Eggs Used As Planters With Air Plants.
My Dad raises chickens and also builds chicken coops. I think that’s where I got my love of DIY projects.
He is very passionate about chickens and is quite knowledgeable about them as well.
He has Ameraucana chickens that lay blue eggs! Usually, he’ll save them for me because he knows I love the color-especially around Easter.
I used these natural blue eggs as planters with air plants for my Easter Tablescape, which I’ll share next week.
Look how cool these are:

Whenever I visit, I always take pictures of his coops and chickens. My Dad loves to sit outside-weather permitting-and watch all the chickens run around.
Another great thing about raising chickens, is all the farm fresh eggs you can eat! I can’t remember the last time I bought eggs. Here are a few of his chickens:
And one of his chicken coops that he builds and sells:

This picture doesn’t really show the color that great, but they are a very subtle blue and are so pretty.
How To Make Egg Planters
Very carefully, open the shells. I used a spoon and lightly tapped the pointy top of the egg to get a small crack.
Then I used my fingers to remove the top part of the shell. I poured the whites and yolk in a bowl and made scrambled eggs! 🙂
Next, clean the shells with warm soapy water and let them dry.
You can use real air plants and succulents by carefully placing the plant with roots into the egg and lightly packing soil around it.
You can also use small plants like pansies. I have done this before with white eggs, but as these air plants were so realistic looking, I just went with fake.
The last thing I did was hot glue a flat clear marble vase filler to each egg so it could stand. I do have egg stands, but these natural blue eggs are just a little small for those.

As I am planning my Easter Tablescape, I thought I would use these air plant eggs as place cards.
I didn’t even use any hot glue, so I can take the air plants out after Easter and use them in other ways.
Have you ever used real eggs in your Easter decorating? I’d love to hear how, or even better, share pictures with me on my Facebook Page.

Hi Michelle :) This is such a great idea! This use for colored chicken eggs would have never crossed my mind...ever! I've been trying to propagate a few of the succulents my wife has here, and now I know exactly what I'm going to do with them. lol! Can't wait to see what she says about them. Thanks for the unique idea.
