How to Make

Vintage Wall Pockets

I’m always looking budget friendly DIY craft projects to make for each season. Upcycled cans make great wall pockets that you can fill with flowers for fall. Let me show you how easy this is to make.

SUPPLIES FOR UPCYCLED CAN WALL POCKET

– Crushed Can – Dollar Tree Self Adhesive Wall Tiles – Acrylic Paint – Chalky Paint  – Foam Brush – Mod Podge – Gorilla glue spray adhesive – Dollar Tree Fall Stems – Foam Block – Wood Stain  – Scissors – Can Opener – Hot Glue Gun

STEP 1. SECURE DOLLAR TREE TILES TO CRUSHED CAN

Start by cutting the peel and stick tile to fit the front of your smashed can. Secure it with spray adhesive and hot glue. Press it down for a minute or two so it is secure.

STEP 2. DRY BRUSH WHITE CHALK PAINT

Use a foam brush to paint a light layer of white chalk paint  across some of the raised areas.

STEP 3. COVER WITH WOOD STAIN

To get the look of vintage, or aged tin tile, I lightly brushed wood stain on top of the tile. Just randomly wipe on the stain.

STEP 4. BRUSH ON SCARLET PAINT

Brush on a rich scarlet acrylic paint over the raised areas for added texture and a pop of color.

STEP 5. BRUSH ON MOD PODGE AND CINNAMON

Brush on a layer of mod podge and lightly sprinkle cinnamon on top.

STEP 6. ADD CRAFT FOAM AND FLOWERS

Cut a piece of craft foam to fit into the wall pocket. Make sure it is in nice and snug. Start adding your fall flowers. It’s best to start at the bottom and work your way up.

STEP 7. CONTINUE ADDING FLOWERS

Continue adding flowers until you are happy with the placement. It helps to hang the floral arrangement and fill in any bare spots. 

TIPS FOR FLOWER ARRANGING

I do recommend adding an odd number of the larger flowers, like the ivory hop flowers. I used 9 following a clock placement. Then add your fillers

STEP 9. ADD TWINE OR WIRE FOR HANGING

You can hang the wall pocket with floral wire, ribbon or twine. Use a hammer and nails to poke a hole in the can. You can also stand the wall pocket on a shelf.
