Pick up a wood sign at a thrift store, or use a piece of scrap wood to make a DIY wood sign with sentiment of your choice.
Hello and welcome to this month’s Thrift Store Challenge where over 25 bloggers share thrift store makeovers. If you’ve visited here recently, you know I have a new craft room for the first time ever.
This was the perfect opportunity to Make A Modern Sign From A Thrift Store Find. A big thank you to Amanda from Domestically Creative for hosting this blog hop.
I seriously look forward to it every month! Let’s get to the details of this modern sign.
I received product from DecoArt used in this post, however all opinions are 100% mine. This post contains affiliate links at no extra cost to you. Please see my full disclosure here.
The Rules:
- Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
- There’s no monthly theme.
- There’s no budget to stick to.

I found this perfectly lovely name sign at the Thrift Store for $2.99 PLUS 50% off. The problem was my last name isn’t Medina. So rather than use scrap wood to make a sign, I decided to makeover this one.
For $1.50 you can’t go wrong! That is why I love thrifting so much. You never know what you will find. Wait until you see the Spring dishes I found for a Spring Tablescape coming up in a couple of weeks!
How To Make A Modern Sign From A Thrift Store Find
Supplies
- Wood Sign or piece of scrap wood in desired length
- Americana Premium Acrylics – Titanium White
- Decoart Gold Americana Decor Metallics 8oz
- Alphabet Stencil
As my Craft Room has a pink and gold theme, I decided to go with a white base with gold lettering. First I gave the sign a good cleaning and then painted it with two coats of the premium paint, letting it dry in between coats. This premium paint has great coverage.
I probably could have gone with just one coat, but I wanted to ensure the wording did not show at all.
Next, I used lowercase stencils with the same gold metallic paint that was used throughout my craft room to stencil the words #blogger onto the sign.
This was a very simple project and for a couple of dollars you can’t beat it! I hung it up in the craft room so it is visible right when I walk in the room. It definitely makes me smile.
I hope you will visit the other bloggers. They always share the coolest projects! Enjoy!
