Sharing is caring!

It is time to clear out the clutter and get organized in the craft room! I am joining 12 crafty bloggers in a 5 week craft room makeover challenge that will completely organize our craft rooms! Every Wednesday we will share updates and the final reveal will be January 31st!

In all my years of crafting, I have never had a dedicated craft room. It has been on my wish list for years, but I just didn’t have an extra room. I learned to make do with what I had and in my master bedroom turned a second closet into a craft closet. You can read all about it here.

This definitely worked well to keep my craft supplies organized, but I had no work space and I had paint supplies and other things that couldn’t fit in here, so all of the overflow would go into my bedroom. Well, you know what happens then right? I completed a Master Bedroom Makeover for the One Room Challenge and had to get rid of all that overflow. You can’t have a pretty room with paint cans and wreath supplies everywhere! You can read about the master bedroom makeover here.

So all the overflow had to go somewhere, and as my daughter is away at College, it went straight to her room! I feel like I have to clarify somewhat as Mom guilt is getting to me. My daughter is a College Senior graduating in May (proud mom), but she has had an apartment since August. She even took her bed, so the room basically just sat there until she came home for Winter Break. You get where this is going right? When she graduates she still plans to live in New Hampshire and will only be coming home to visit. However she was a little territorial about her room and letting some of the things in it go. Here is her room all cleaned up for Christmas last year:

Get ready to see the way it looks now (embarrassing moment):

Ugh! It makes me scared just looking at this picture! You can see a mix of crafts, dorm room leftovers and refinished furniture that has no home! My daughter is as obsessed with makeup and beauty products as I am with crafts-look at all the Bath & Body sprays!

The double closets are more of the same-a mix of crafts and dorm room leftovers. And yes my 21 yo daughter has a hard time letting go of stuffed animals! Not only are they in the closet-but look at this:

I love that she is a kid at heart, but it is time to clear the clutter and purge, purge, purge! So while her bed moved to the apartment, the headboard stayed:

There is a single closet on the opposite wall that is also full with holiday decorations! More clutter!

Craft Room Makeover Challenge – Week 1

Here are my plans for the room:

  • Start with a keep, donate and toss pile
  • Clean entire room
  • Completely empty both closets and set up a closet organization system in the double closet
  • DIY Desk for blogging and office use
  • Seating for both desk and craft table-research for chairs with lumbar support (bad back)
  • Large Craft Table to use as work station with lighting and video capabilities
  • Feature wall with a faux wood wallpaper
  • Organization system to include bins, boxes and cubbies both hanging and freestanding
  • Decorate with things I love to create and inspire
  • Futon or sleep sofa for guest visits
  • Solve lighting issue-there is no overhead lighting

We hope you will join us in this Craft Room Challenge. We all know creativity flows so much better if you are in a comfortable, organized space. I am thrilled to finally have a space to call my own and know this will make a difference with the flow of the rest of my home as well. No more nights crafting at the dining room table!
