Sharing is caring!

This DIY American Flag wreath is one of the easiest wreaths to make with no sewing and no hot glue needed! It’s great for summer holidays.

American Flag Wreath

When I first started this blog over a decade ago, my goal was to inspire others to craft and DIY on a budget.

So when I receive a message from a fellow crafter with one of their creations, it totally makes my day!

My former high school classmate, Lisa, sent me a pic of a flag wreath she made and I absolutely loved it. She inspired me to make this grapevine wreath.

My dad is a proud Veteran of the USAF. My plan is to gift this American Flag wreath to him for Father’s Day. This will look so festive on his front door or on his large workshop shed.

He loved the pallet wood flag wall sign that I crafted a couple of years ago and loves all things patriotic.

Supplies for DIY American Flag Wreath

One of the things that I love about this patriotic wreath is that it requires no sewing and no hot glue.

You can remove the flag to hang on a flag pole if you like. Though the wreath is so pretty it may be hard to take apart. 🙂

How to Make a Flag Wreath

I’ve included a printable craft/DIY card at the end of this post to make this wreath project even easier for you!

While my grapevine wreath is painted white, you can choose to use a natural grapevine wreath as well. It is totally a matter of preference.

You can find American Flags for a good price at Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart. Mine is from Amazon and it was under $15!

Fold the Flag

The first thing you want to do is fold the flag to about 8″ with the stars and 8″ with the stripes.

Where the flag meets you can secure it with a zip tie through the pole hole.

Gather the Flag

Next you want to bring the gathered section together and drape it under the grapevine wreath.

Simply let the flag drape naturally at the bottom of the wreath. As mentioned above, no glue is needed!

Make a Wreath Bow

Here are a few tips for making a large bow to compliment the size of the flag. Cut ribbon tiles extra long about 24″. I used two red, white and blue ribbons for extra dimension.

Make several loops about 8″ in length for your wreath bow.

Secure with a zip tie and add it to the base of the wreath where the excess flag hangs.

You can choose to stop here for a gorgeous wreath, or add a few flower stems as shown below.

I chose to keep the flower stems long and secure them into the grapevine at an angle. The stems were leftover from another project. I used 4 total stems-2 on each side.

Hanging Your Wreath

Once your wreath is finished, it’s time to display it with pride. I’m thrilled with how this beauty turned out.

It makes a statement and brings that wow factor with classic American red, white and blue.

Hang it on your front door, on a porch, patio or balcony. It would also look lovely above a fireplace, or anywhere else that will showcase your beautiful creation.

Think about creating more than one wreath so you can give one as a gift.
