Sharing is caring!
Well, I survived moving my daughter into her dorm room & I actually handled it better than I expected. She also handled it well & I am so proud of her for being strong enough to not only leave home-3 hrs away no less-but also for conquering the first week as well as she has. She is embracing her independence & has already signed up for 3 clubs, applied for 4 work study jobs & is auditioning for a play next week! Go Amanda! Keeping busy has been such a help to me & I had a great time creating things for her room. I thought I would share some ideas as I know lots of my friends have kids going off to College in the next year. I wanted to do a small headboard that could easily hang above her bed. I saw some cool ideas on Pinterest, but wanted to use what I had on hand to save on costs. I created this:
From this:
I used cardboard, a black sheet & brads. I then made curtains:
I used a $3 shower curtain, cut it in half & drew music notes on it with a sharpie paint pen, as both Amanda & her rommate, Rebecca are very musical.
I then made some artwork:
I printed a bunch of Amanda’s Senior Year photos & used modge podge to attach them to her initials.
I still have some of these great burlap canvases that I bought on clearance & used my go to sharpie paint pen to freehand this saying, which is one of my favorites & a great reminder for her to be a leader, not a follower.
We then got to work on her desk shelves adding her My Chemical Romance Jewelry Box that I made her a few months ago, along with red solo cup lights (not encouraging underage drinking 🙂 and plenty of photos & books. Unfortunately, we had to put the microwave on here as there was no room, but it works.
Here is my sweet girl-sorry for the blurry picture. She has a Breakfast Club poster over her bed, which I find hysterical as that was one of my favorite movies when I was a teen!
Lastly, this is the view right behind her dorm-can you imagine? I would so be out by the bridge reading & blogging. It really is such a beautiful part of New Hampshire. I wish you all the best Amanda!

Hi MichelleWhat fun projects - love the headboard and initials with photos! So impressed with your music note curtain - sharpies - wow! Making the headboard out of cardboard to be light weight is just genius! My 12 year old daughter already talks about how she wants to decorate her future dorm room!--- I will have to show her your ideas. She is a crafty girl & will love it. Well done!
