Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
Get ready to be wowed by this pool noodle hack! Not only is it super easy to create an extra full garland mantel, but it’s also a budget-friendly DIY project.
The best part; I didn’t use a drop of hot glue. So if you want to change it out for Christmas, simply remove the fall stems and store them for next year.
Supplies
- pool noodle – mine is from Dollar Tree. So many people are using them for crafts, that they sell Christmas colors now! I went with green.
- Fall Stems – I used a mix of gorgeous stems from Michaels. They were all 50% off. You can also check out the dollar store.
- blue pampas grass
- maple leaf stems
- velvet pumpkins
- eucalyptus garland
- seeded eucaluptus stems
- fairy lights – these are battery-operated and on a timer.
- ribbed glass hurricane pillar candle holders
- battery-operated pillar candles
How to Decorate a Mantel with a Pool Noodle
Let’s get to this simple tutorial.
Start by cutting the pool noodle lengthwise down the middle. An x-acto knife or craft knife works just fine.
Place the pool noodle onto the mantel edge and press it down so it lays flat against the mantel. I used packing tape to hold it down and let it flatten a bit.
This might not be necessary depending on how your mantel is.
After a couple of hours the pool noodle is nice and secure and ready to be decorated.
Start with the eucalyptus garland as the base. Command hooks work great to secure the ends of the garland.
Fill in around the garland using the fall stems. It’s best to start with the accent pieces such as the maple leaf stems and filler stems.
Simply push the ends of the stems into the pool noodle-no hot glue needed!
Continue adding the flowers until the pool noodle is covered. Going with a green pool noodle made a big difference.
Add the larger items such as the velvet pumpkins and pampas grass last. It helps to take a step back and check to see if the garland is even.
I’m big on symmetry so I usually take a picture at this point and check the arrangement.
It’s so full and lush! I’m so happy with how it turned out. A pair of hurricane globes with battery-operated pillar candles balances out each end.
Everything is better with fairy lights. This set is no-fuss. They are on a timer on for 6 hours. Love the convenience. Such a cozy look while watching a movie at night.
I’m not a fan of having a television over a mantel, but this is the only place we could have it.
One thing I love to do for the holidays is to use a television screensaver. Look at how gorgeous this gold framed pumpkin scene is:
If you haven’t done this before, just search “free fall television screensavers” on YouTube. There are tons of beautiful images.
