Thrifted Wooden Bowls
It’s time for our monthly decor collaboration where we makeover thrifted finds.
Be sure to check out all of the DIY projects with the links at the bottom of this post.
My project started with this set of 3 wooden bowls. I’m pretty sure they are teak, or possibly acacia wood.
They were marked $6 for all 3, but the sticker was blue, which meant they were 50% off!
You can’t beat that price, plus they are in beautiful condition.

I thought about just giving them a good cleaning and finishing them up with food grade mineral oil, but then I remembered the pretty pressed flowers I had left over from my ghost painting.
I’m thrilled to share this craft with you, so let’s get to it!
Supplies
Here is what you need to make your own pressed flower wooden bowls.
- Wooden Bowls – these are commonly found at local thrift stores, antique markets, flea markets or even your basement! If you can’t find any thrifted bowls, check Homegoods or Walmart. I did find this set of 4 on Amazon.
- Pressed Flowers
- Mod Podge
- Triple Thick Gloss Glaze
- Small Brushes

How to Make Pressed Flower Wooden Bowls
This is a super simple craft project. The most important tip I have is to be patient when adding the final glaze. Other than that, get creative with the flower placement and have fun!
Step 1. Clean the Bowls
The first step is to give the bowls a good cleaning. A simple wash with dawn dish soap does the trick. No need for fancy cleaning products.
Step 2. Add Mod Podge
Place a light coat of mod podge directly to the wood bowl. Add pressed flowers wherever you want them to go on top of the mod podge.

Lightly press them so they are secure.

Step 3. Continue Adding Flowers
Keep adding flowers to all 3 bowls until you are happy with the placement. Have a little fun with it and create a pattern, like a moon shape, or just add them around the bowl.
Step 4. Add Triple Thick Gloss Glaze
Once you have finished adding flowers, cover with a coat of triple thick glaze. This is the only part that you have to be careful of.
If you add too much at once, there will be a clump of glaze. Start with one coat, let it dry and then add another coat if needed.

Step 5. Let Dry Overnight
The final step is to let the glaze completely dry overnight before use. They may be dry to touch after 3-4 hours, however, they will still be tacky.
The following images are after 24 hours. The glaze is clear and super shiny!

Decorate with your beautiful wooden bowls. There are so many uses.

Here are just a few:
- Desk Organizer: Use them to hold paper clips, push pins, rubber bands, or other small office supplies to add a touch of natural beauty to your workspace.
- Potpourri Holder: Fill the bowl with potpourri or dried herbs to bring a lovely scent and rustic charm to any room. Stop by next week to see how I will be packaging these for holiday gifting with homemade potpourri, complete with dried oranges and cinnamon sticks.
- Jewelry Catch-All: Keep it on your dresser or vanity to store rings, earrings, and other small accessories in a pretty, handmade display.
- Entryway or Coffee Table Decor: Use it to hold keys, coins, wrapped candies, or even television remotes. Functional and decorative all at once.

Michelle,
Your pressed flowers are so very pretty. I've never done that before. The application of the pressed flowers to the bowls is spot on. I love how they turned out.
