DIY Bench Makeovers
There is something about an old deacon’s bench that I absolutely love. First of all, there is storage and who couldn’t use more storage, right?
But they also seem very elegant to me. I remember having one in the room I shared with my sister growing up that we used to hold our old board games.
The deacon’s bench below was a yard sale find from my Dad and you have to check out what it looked like before!
As I love farmhouse style, I gave this deacon’s bench a classic grain sack stripe with navy and white paint.
Funny story-I actually had a deadline for this piece and brought it with me to the hotel when I was visiting family out of State.
That show’s you how quick and easy it was to refinish! That also explains the ugly carpet!
This was my first ever deacon’s bench that I have refinished about three times! But to my credit I have had it about 15 years, so once every 5 years isn’t bad, right?
Be sure to visit the link below to see what it looked like before. Hint-remember when ivy stencils were all the rage?

My Dad came through for me again with this outdoor garden bench, but it was in BAD shape. I’m talking unbelievably bad peeling paint and broken slats.
A few repairs and a classic black paint brought this garden bench back to life!
My thoughts on faux fur are you either love it or hate it. I am one who loves it-pillows, rugs, benches-I love it all! My Sister is the complete opposite.
She just shakes her head and says-like only a Sister can-you still like faux fur, huh? How do you feel about it?
It has been popular for some time and based on my recent trip to Joann Fabrics, it looks like it is still popular.
They had a gorgeous blush color that I am dying to incorporate in my home somehow. Stay tuned!

Love them all Michelle, but that garden bench is especially pretty oh and the furry one too ;-) I'm all for faux fur, it just looks so luxurious and cozy. Keen to see your pale pink version and how you add it in your new home
