If you’ve visited here before, you know I love working with wood slice pieces. But wood slices, or slabs, can be very pricey. Lucky for me, my Dad lives on a small farm and is clearing some of his land, so he has been giving me various sizes of wood slices.

The first piece I ever made was this resin wood slice side table. It’s still one of my favorite pieces. Next up I made a live edge console table for my daughter’s college apartment. It’s filled with seashells and small stones.

This summer I really want to enjoy my backyard area, but it needs a lot of work. You can get an idea of what it looks like in my summer alfresco table from last year.

The main problem is there is no deck or patio. The good news is it’s set on a dead end and backs up to 3 acres of trees for lots of privacy and enough of a grassy area to add a patio.

I have plans for that, along with a firepit and, fingers crossed, a pergola. I already have outdoor furniture, but really need side tables and a coffee table.

When DecoArt reached out to me to partner on their NEW glow paint, now available at Michaels, I immediately knew it would be perfect for a DIY wood slice side table.

I already had a $5 thrift store find side table shown below:

The wood slice was the perfect size and shape to fit right on top of this baby. Take a look at the finished piece during the day and at night:

I love that it looks like just a pretty aqua table, until it gets dark, and then you get that WOW factor. How cool will it be to sit outside and have a little table that glows in the dark? It will be a statement piece for sure.

Here is what you need to make your own glow in the dark wood slice table:

Supplies For DIY Wood Slice Table Glow Paint

Step 1.

Be sure your wood slice is clean from any dust, dirt, grime, etc. I chose to leave the bark on, as I love the look of it, but you can remove it if you like.

Step 2.

The glow paint shows up brighter if you paint the piece with white paint first, so I used DecoArt Chalk Paint in white. Paint two coats allowing it to dry in between coats.

Step 3.

Once dry, paint the wood slice with the glow paint. I used aqua, which has a pretty mint shade to it. You will need at least 2-3 coats. Keep in mind it does dry darker.

Step 4.

Let dry overnight.

Step 5.

Attach the wood slice to the tabletop with wood glue, or if you are not using a table as a base, add legs to the wood slice.

Step 6.

Allow the paint to fully cure and then add a protective sealer of your choice.

I thought about painting the table base too, maybe in white, but I like the brown tone against the bark. Knowing me, that could change tomorrow! I’d love to hear if you have ever used glow in the dark paint.

Years ago I made t-shirts for my kids using a fabric type paint, but this is my first time painting wood with it and I LOVE it.

So “Let it Glow” with Americana Glow Paint and have fun with this cool paint product. If you do try it, please leave me a picture in the comments below. I’d love to see it!
