Brr Basket aka Burr Basket

I enlisted the help of my daughter, Amanda, to pick up items for this brr basket. She loves shopping (like her mama) and the person I am gifting this to is just a little bit older than her, so I know it will be a hit.

One of the things I try to share on Our Crafty Mom is that you can craft, create and decorate on a small budget. The best part is, you can have fun while doing it and totally make it your own.

Burr Baskets have been going crazy on social media, especially TikTok.

In addition to sharing this Dollar Tree Brr Basket, I’m including several ideas at the bottom of this post for just about everyone on your list.

Think about neighbors, teachers, co-workers, or an extra little treat for the kids.

What Is A Brr Basket?

A brr basket is basically a cozy little “stay warm” gift you put together for someone when the weather gets chilly.

People love giving them around the holidays or anytime the weather feels extra cold.

It’s super easy to personalize and just a fun way to make someone feel cozy and taken care of.

Living in New England, with extremely harsh winters, they are especially popular! It’s usually filled with stuff like fuzzy socks, hot cocoa, a candle, maybe a blanket.

Think of it as a “cold weather survival kit” that’s cute, practical, and easy to put together with anything that gives off those warm and snuggly vibes.

What To Put In A Brr Basket

One of the reasons brr baskets are so popular, is you can easily customize them for all ages. Men, kids, teens, girls, and boys all love a little warm-up treat when the weather gets cold.

They can be totally affordable to put together too, especially if you grab most of the goodies from Dollar Tree.

Here are some great items to include in a brr basket without spending much at all.:

  • Fuzzy socks or cozy slippers
  • A soft throw blanket
  • Hot cocoa mix, tea bags, or instant coffee
  • A cute winter-themed mug
  • Hand warmers or a small heating pad
  • Lip balm and hand lotion
  • Scented candle or wax melts
  • Mini chocolates or winter treats
  • A warm beanie or gloves
  • A handwritten note or winter-themed tag
  • Cozy pajamas or loungewear (optional)
  • A small book, puzzle, or relaxation activity

Dollar Tree Brr Basket

For this Christmas burr basket, the budget was $15, so Amanda shopped the Dollar Tree to find a collection of items that went perfectly with the warm and cozy vibe.

While these items are cheap, they don’t look cheap, which is always a good thing!

Quick tip: Fill the basket with similar colors or theme. For example, the gloves, hat and socks are all in similar colors.

Brr Basket for Her

Here is what she chose:

  • Nutcracker Hot/Cold Cup
  • Hot Cocoa
  • Chocolate Stirring Spoons
  • Winter Hat
  • Winter Gloves
  • Fuzzy Socks
  • Candle – you can’t get any cozier than a Hershey’s cookies ‘n’ creme scent!
  • Hot Cocoa Body Wash
  • Hydro Plus Water Gel – I’m told this is a knock-off of a brand water gel.
  • Tinted Lip Oil – to hydrate your lips perfect for winter weather.
  • Sugared Vanilla Bath Bombs – nothing like a relaxing bubble bath to warm you up!
  • Basket – most of the baskets were picked over at this time, so she chose a faux wicker basket. Dress it up with seasonal ribbon and a gift tag.
  • Paper Shreds – it’s always a good idea to add paper shreds to the bottom of the basket. Not only does it help fill it and keep items in place, but it also makes it look a bit more professional. I already had pretty gold and white in my stash.

Grand total $15.00 since I had the shreds. Great job Amanda! 🙂

Simply add the paper shreds to the basket and add all of your items. Place the larger items in the back and layer them so they are standing up.

Look how cute this is:

If you want to give a little something extra, you can also include a gift card. A local coffee shop would fit right in with the winter theme.

My plan is to include a homemade Christmas Simmer Pot gift in a mason jar. This will be up on the blog tomorrow, so come back for that. It smells like Christmas in a Jar!!

Brr Basket Ideas for Him

Switch it up with a few changes or additions for a great gift for the guys on your list. Here are a few suggestions.

  • Winter Scarf
  • Cozy Gloves
  • Scratch Tickets
  • Warm beanie or knit hat
  • Thermal socks or cozy slipper socks
  • Hot cocoa, coffee, or cider packets
  • A sturdy mug or travel tumbler
  • Hand warmers
  • Mini tool gadget or pocket-sized multitool
  • Chapstick and hand lotion
  • Beef jerky or his favorite snacks
  • A small candle with a clean, masculine scent
  • Sudoku or crossword book
  • Mini Bottles of Alcohol (aka “nips”) if 21+

Brr Basket for Kids

There are so many cute things you can put in a basket for the kids. This is where it will be helpful to customize it with the recipient in mind.

For example, if you are shopping for a child who loves trucks, go all in with that theme.

If you are shopping for a child who loves all things princess, go with that. The main thing is to have fun with it.

  • Mini coloring books or crayons
  • Stickers or temporary tattoos
  • Cozy mittens or a beanie
  • A small stuffed animal
  • Scented lip balm
  • Hot chocolate bombs
  • A winter-themed storybook
  • Fun snacks like popcorn, gummies, or cookies
  • Hand warmers in cute shapes
  • Glow sticks for winter evenings

I hope you are inspired by these affordable brr basket ideas. What would you put in your brr basket?
