College Dorm Checklist
After going through several college move-ins with my own kids, I created this list to help other families stay organized.
It includes necessary essentials and a few helpful extras we learned along the way. This convenient PDF download is perfect for any freshman, girl or guy.
The good news is there are even more back to school printables from some of my blogging friends for this monthly collaboration.
Read to the bottom of this post to see all of the freebies including activity packs, bookmarks, planners and more!
What to Bring to College Dorm Checklist
Here are just a few of the essentials, specifically helpful for a freshman. One of the things we learned really quickly with the first move in, was that we completely over packed!
Let’s face it, most college dorm rooms are not very large. While a large flat screen television may seem like a necessity for a teen’s bedroom, it really is not a priority in a dorm room.
If they have a suite with a living room that is another story, but most of the time they will stream on their laptop. We ended up bringing so much home the first move, including that flat screen!
- Refrigerator: This apartment sized refrigerator is currently on deep discount at Lowe’s. It is compact so it doesn’t take up much space, but it has extra freezer room for those late night pizza cravings and the door holds 2 liter bottles. This is the exact one I bought my son for his room.
- Command Hooks: Stock up on these because they will be used to decorate the room, hang bags, scarves, whatever they need. Plus, they have different sizes to hold a variety of weights.
- College Essentials: Get the essentials in bulk to hold you over until fall break, including batteries, paper towels, boxes of tissues and more.
- Clip on Fan: this works great as they can clip it to their bed or move it to their desk as needed.
- Rolling Laundry Cart: Be sure to get one on wheels to make it easier for your student to get it to the laundry room.
- Swiffer Wet Jet: This may not get as used as often as we like, but those floors need to get mopped. This makes it super simple.
- Laundry Bag: You know the laundry will be coming home on break, so this heavy duty laundry bag is a necessity!
- Desk Lamp: This touch lamp is sleek and doesn’t take up much desk space.
- Surge Protectors: This is something I forgot the first go round and ended up having to run out to get one.
- String Lights: Have you ever seen a dorm room without them? 🙂
- Dry Erase Calendar: A dry erase board is perfect to hang over a desk to keep important dates in plain view. You might also want to grab a small board to hang on the front door for notes.
