Have you ever notice that sometimes the easiest crafts are the ones you end up loving the most? That is exactly what happened with this DIY!
Salt Shaker Tassels
My daughter and I went to Cracker Barrel for lunch recently and couldn’t resist browsing their shop, especially because the holiday decor was out. I love looking at their Christmas ornaments.
But, the moment I spotted these cute little Halloween salt shakers, I had to have them. The fact that they were just .98 cents made me love them even more. I scooped up one of each and knew I’d find a cool use for them.
A quick search on Pinterest and I spotted this fun lemon salt shaker tassel from My Eclectic Treasures. So, I gave it my own spin for Halloween.
Let’s get to this 10 minute craft so you can make your own!
Supplies
- Salt Shakers – you can use any style that you like as long as they have an opening at the bottom. The vintage shakers where you remove the top won’t work for this DIY. But, I have a project coming up next week for those-stay tuned!
- Pipe Cleaners – you can use twine as well, but I found pipe cleaners worked easier because of the wire.
- Assorted Ribbon – different sizes, designs and colors to blend with your shakers. I found a ribbon bundle at Michael’s for Halloween at 50% off.
- Tweezers – to help get the pipe cleaner through both sides.
Step 1. Attach a pipe cleaner
Run one end of the pipe cleaner through one of the holes on top of the salt shaker.
Place the other end through the second hole to create a loop. Use your tweezers to pull the end of the pipe cleaner though the opening on the bottom of the shaker.
You can dispose of the rubber cover that comes with the shaker.
The wire in the pipe cleaner makes it super easy to twist the top loop to make it the size you want for hanging. Be sure you make a large enough knot on top so it doesn’t slip through the holes.
Now you just need to tie the bottom pipe cleaner into your collection of ribbon. It is up to you how long you want to make your tassel. I went with about 6″. Using a pre-made bundle of ribbon made this so easy.
Wrap another piece of twine or ribbon around the top of the tassels to get that affect. Trim any edges.
That is seriously all there is to it. This will literally take you about 10 minutes. Nothing better than quick, easy and budget-friendly crafts. I’ll definitely be making Christmas salt shaker tassels for small gifts and to use as ornaments.
Have you seen how cute the salt and pepper shakers are at Cracker Barrel? They also carry everyday designs.
