Make a gorgeous tobacco basket spring wreath that makes a perfect Easter or spring door hanger.
Doesn’t this tobacco basket spring wreath make you think of Peter Rabbit? I absolutely loved the books when I was a kid, and reading them to my own children.
I shared how I made this adorable Easter wreath on a facebook live last week as part of a Spring Decor Door Challenge, and I promised I would share a written tutorial on the blog.
Wreath making is my most favorite craft. If you enjoy it as well, check out all of my wreaths here. When I was planning what type of spring wreath to make for the challenge, I knew I wanted something different.
While I love a good grapevine wreath, sometimes it’s fun to mix it up. The moment I saw this adorable little straw bunny at the craft store, inspiration struck!
Plus, I already had this tobacco basket in my craft room that I knew would be perfect for this spring wreath. This tobacco basket is metal, instead of the normal basket material.
I do think the basket style would look great as well. In fact, I made a winter tobacco basket wreath here.

Here is what you need to make your own spring wreath:
Supplies Needed For A Tobacco Basket Wreath
- Metal Tobacco Basket
- Pink Gingham Ribbon
- Spring Flowers
- Fabric Carrots – Target Dollar Spot
- Carrots – Dollar Tree
- Foam Block
- Straw Bunny – similar
- Cordless Hot Glue Gun
Instructions For Tobacco Basket Spring Wreath
- Hot glue the foam block to the bottom center of the wreath.
- Secure the straw bunny to the top of the foam block with hot glue, or floral wire.
- Begin attaching spring florals into the foam block. Continue adding the flowers until the tobacco basket is covered in an L-shape. You can add more if you like, but I wanted the basket to show.
- Add the larger fabric carrots to the top of the wreath using hot glue.
- Attach the smaller carrots throughout the wreath also with hot glue.
How To Make A Wreath Bow
Once the wreath is decorated, it’s time to add a pretty bow. The pink gingham ribbon is perfect for spring.
Start by folding the ribbon in equal lengths for each loop that you want. I normally do 8 for a wreath this size. Be sure to leave a long enough tail.
Hold the ribbon together at the bottom of each loop and use floral wire, or a pipe cleaner to tie a knot around the base of the bow and tighten until it is secure.
You can add the bow to the wreath with the floral wire. I chose to add it to the left side of the wreath, but it is totally up to you.
Now it’s just a matter of hanging the wreath up indoors or out. Here it is on my front door:
It also looks great in and entryway, or over a mantel. Wherever you want to add a little spring cheer!
Where To Find Tobacco Baskets?
You can find vintage tobacco baskets at thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, or antique stores. Reproduction tobacco baskets can be found at most craft and home stores.
