It’s Day 5 and we are sharing Holiday Party Food Ideas!
My husband was a pastry chef for many years and was an incredible cook, so he did most of the cooking when the kids were younger. Any time there was a family get together, everyone always asked if he would make pepperoni and cheese calzones. Of course, he used to make his own dough, but that is above my culinary skills, so I use pre-made dough 🙂 It is just as yummy and you can easily make these for a quick week night meal as well.
Pepperoni And Cheese Calzone
Ingredients
- 2 lbs of pizza dough
- Sliced Pepperoni
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Melted Butter
- Flour
Instructions
Start by rolling out the dough on a floured surface. Add flour to the rolling pin as well. You want to roll the dough in a rectangle shape about a foot long. This is the pepperoni I used, but you can also use large deli sliced pepperoni.
Now you want to add your toppings in the middle of the calzone. We are very boring and don’t even add sauce. We load it with pepperoni and shredded mozzarella cheese and that is it. But I have made other calzones with chicken parmesan, meatball, sausage and peppers, etc. Add your favorite toppings and you are good to go.
The next part is key, otherwise the dough will open up while cooking. Fold each end of the dough up first, then fold one side of the dough over and pinch the dough so it’s closed. You can use a little water too. When we made these at my Sister’s house recently we didn’t close it enough, but they still tasted really good!

Brush melted butter along the top of the dough and bake in a pre-heated oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. I told you it was easy!
You can serve sauce on the side and dip the calzones in it. These are definitely a great party food and good for football season too.
