Nothing says Halloween quite like a cake that stares back at you. This eyeball cake starts with a funfetti round cake, gets a smooth coat of white frosting, and finishes with Oreo cookies and brown M&Ms for that perfectly creepy (and totally edible) eyeball effect.

It’s spooky, it’s sweet, and it’s way easier to make than it looks. Add it to your Halloween party table for the perfect centerpiece.

How to Make Eyeball Halloween Cake

Start by frosting the cooled funfetti cake with the white frosting.

Separate the Oreo cookies and place a brown M&M in the center to create an eye.

Place the Oreo eyes onto the cake until you are happy with the coverage.

Recipe Variations

  • Chocolate Overload: Swap the funfetti cake for chocolate cake and use chocolate frosting for a spookier, darker eyeball
  • Bloodshot Eyes: Add thin red gel icing lines around the Oreo for a creepy “bloodshot” effect
  • Mini Eyeball Cakes: Use cupcakes instead of a round cake for individual, grab-and-go treats
  • Different Candy Eyes: Swap the M&Ms for candy eyeballs (found at craft/baking stores) for an even more realistic look
  • Green Monster Eyes: Tint the frosting green instead of white for a monster-inspired twist

Storage Tips

  • Room Temperature: Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days if serving soon after making Refrigerator: For longer storage, keep covered in the fridge for up to 4–5 days — just note the frosting may firm up slightly
  • Freezing: Freeze the un-frosted cake layer (wrapped tightly in plastic wrap) for up to 3 months; frost and decorate with the Oreo and M&M eyes fresh after thawing
  • Avoid Freezing Once Decorated: The Oreo cookies can get soggy and the M&Ms may bleed color if frozen after assembly, so it’s best to decorate close to serving time
