This next project was truly a labor of love! It took quite some time to get it how I envisioned it, but I am so stoked by how it turned out!
I drive by the most adorable country store on my way to work everyday. One day as I was driving by I saw this cute little rocking horse in the front of the store.
As you know from my recent posts, I have all things baby on my mind. I went there on my lunch break to see if I could get a decent price-knowing it was an antique I was a little leary, but the shop owner was the sweetest lady & gave me a great deal.
It needed work though. I know some people cringe at painting an antique, but I feel it is important to love what you have in a room & if you don’t love it, what is the point?
I didn’t love it, but knew I could & now I absolutely love it!! I went with yellow & gray as those are the colors the Mom To Be chose for the nursery.
I even braided ribbon & yarn for the tail. The eyes were the hardest, but I think they are so sweet now. When the baby is named I plan to paint it on the side.
Trust me when I tell you I really did a happy dance when she was complete! My Son caught me & said I was losing my marbles 🙂 anyway here she is in all her glory:

Thank you Heaven! The tail is my favorite too! Reminded me of playing with barbies with my daughter when she was little & she always wanted me to braid their hair. Have a great week. Michelle

Hi Michelle, I have this exact rocking horse. It has the same happy face. My Dad made it for my son before he was born. He was the first grandchild. My husband has repainted it for me and we keep it by a large window in our dining room. My grandchildren love this rocking horse. I am so glad I kept it. I can't tell you how many times I have been watching my grand kids and found one of them happily rocking while looking out the window. I was so surprised to see our same rocking horse on your blog. I hope my children or grandchildren will keep it for their kids someday.

Elisa-thank you for sharing your beautiful story. I was so surprised when I looked up antique rocking horses & found the exact same one we have. Here is the link https://www.u-bild.com/woodworking-projects/RockingHorseKit-KB56P.htm appears it is from the 1970's. I love finding items and researching the history. I am hoping my niece passes it on to her children as well. Nothing like a family keepsake. I have my wooden rocking chair that I used to rock both my babies (24 & 18 now) to sleep. I plan to pass it on for them to use with their babies. I have a post about it here: https://ourcraftymom.blogspot.com/2013/04/annie-sloan-rocking-chair-with-history.html Have a great day! Michelle
