Living Room Wallpaper Ideas

Wallpaper is a great way to update your living space and add visual appeal to your home. Today we are featuring my sister Joanne and brother-in-law Larry’s living room.

You may recognize this space from several years ago with this coastal home tour. Several changes have already been completed, including painting the mantel and built-ins.

This made such a big difference, however, Joanne really wanted to add a focal point to the top of the built-ins.

The room has super high ceilings and the open space above the shelves felt a little bare. Nothing that a gorgeous wallpaper and a bit of elbow grease couldn’t fix!

Choosing the Right Living Room Wallpaper

Joanne chose a lovely botanical bliss peel and stick wallpaper with the color Armada for the background and Eggshell for the flowers. This was ordered in a smooth finish.

The blue and white wallpaper is a great choice for this accent wall. The style and design blends perfectly with the blue color of the rug and the traditional style of the home.

Why choose Love Vs Design?

One of Joanne’s favorite features about choosing her wallpaper design was the ability to recolor the design instantly online with the color finder.

She was able to tailor the background color and flower color to her specific choice.

It is fun to play with the different options until you find the best choice for your space.

So, whether you are looking for a modern living room wallpaper, a traditional style for your dining room, or a floral wallpaper as shown in this article, Love Vs Design has a wide variety of patterns and various colors to choose from.

Here are some of the featured collections:

  • kids
  • classic
  • botanical print
  • tropical
  • geometric wallpaper
  • stripes
  • wall murals

Before and After

There is nothing like a good before and after photo to see the impact. Just look at how much brighter and fresher the living room looks:

How to Choose Wallpaper for Living Room

The most difficult part of this process is choosing the right wallpaper. Thankfully, Love Vs Design has an option where you can order a custom color sample of any wallpaper for only $6!

You can order a 9 inch x 25 inch sample in multiple color options and wallpaper materials.

Seeing the wallpaper in your home, with your furniture and colors, is a huge help in finding the perfect wallpaper for you.

Here are a few important factors to keep in mind when deciding on your choice of wallpaper.

  • size of the room – are you wallpapering a large scale room or looking for a design for small spaces?
  • personal preferences – do you like a neutral wallpaper or do you prefer a bright color? Perhaps you want to add a whimsical mural to a nursery, or geometric patterns for a modern touch.
  • do you want a bold statement or a delicate pattern?
  • What is your favorite color or style?

Choose the Right Type of Wallpaper

Love Vs Design has both a peel and stick wallpaper and a glissade traditional wallpaper.

Glissade is intended to be semi-permanent, while peel and stick materials are damage-free and easy to remove when it’s time for a change or if you are moving. Peel and stick is the best option for renters.

Gather Your Supplies

Here are some of the supplies you may need for installing peel and stick wallpaper.

  • Squeegee (included)
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Level and Ruler
  • Spray Bottle

Prep Your Walls

The installation process is surprisingly simple. The first step is to clean your walls. The best way to do this is to use a mix of 70% isopropyl alcohol mixed with 30% water. Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge.

Let the wall dry completely. Repeat if necessary.

Patch or fill in any holes or dents, and then use a sanding block to smooth snags or bumps. You want to ensure that there are no rough or uneven textures on the wall that may damage the wallpaper.

Determine Placement

Put panels in order. Some wallpaper designs need to go up in a certain order. Check your panels for numbers at the bottom to ensure a perfect match. Be sure to start with panel one.

Use a level to draw a vertical line 24 inches from the left side of your wall. This will ensure your pattern is level. Remove outlet or vent covers if needed.

Installation

Peel away the backer 6 inches from the top. Line up your first panel with the line you placed on the wall.

Work in one-foot increments and smooth the wallpaper downwards with the included squeegee.

Use the squeegee and apply pressure to ensure each panel has securely adhered to the wall.

Use a sharp blade and ruler to trim off any leftover wallpaper.

That’s all there is to it. It really is that simple. If you have been on the fence about installing peel and stick wallpaper, give it a try. It is an affordable way to add a statement to any room!

The blue and white floral patterns and vibrant colors in this wallpaper design create a beautiful backdrop for the fireplace surround and make the room feel more modern and fresh.

This living room feature wall is the first thing you see when you walk into the home and now it really stands out. The great news is, it did not take a lot of time to complete this DIY project.

You can easily finish it in a weekend with one day of prep and one day of install. Larry did an incredible job just in time for family gatherings for the holidays.
