Repurpose an old stool into a cool DIY cat window seat. It’s the perfect height to place in front of a window and can be moved from room to room.

Now that the warm weather is here, my favorite place to hang out is my back deck. It is so peaceful and where you can find me most nights after work.
Here is the view from my dining room:
We have a large picture window in the dining room and our 3.5 yo cat, Lacey, loves to climb up on one of the dining room chairs and and look out this window.
Whenever I am outside I can expect to look up and see her peering down at me! That is actually what inspired me to make a DIY Window Seat for her.
This is a much better height for her to look outside and feel the warm sunshine!

Check out her comfy new window seat:
As she is an indoor cat, this is the next best thing to sitting out on the back deck with me. It’s her new favorite spot to take a cat nap! What a tough life Lacey has!
Before I get to the tutorial I wanted to talk about Lacey’s new favorite dry cat food, Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Indoor Complete Chicken with Lentils & Salmon Recipe.
I am happy to share that right now you can save $2 on Nutrish Indoor Complete with the below coupon. You can print it twice and it doesn’t expire until the end of the year.
You have 30 days from the time you print it to use it. Isn’t it great to not only feed your cat wholesome ingredients, but also save money?
Here she is enjoying her food. This is classic Lacey-she was mad at me because I was interrupting her meal by snapping pictures!
Doesn’t her look totally say leave me alone and let me enjoy my food? She takes her food very seriously.
Of course, Lacey only cares about the taste of her food, which she obviously loves very much! But I care about the important nutritional value that Nutrish Indoor Complete pet foods have.
First of all, they only use real U.S. farm-raised chicken, plus real salmon. With added vitamins, minerals and taurine that Lacey needs.
Nutrish Indoor Complete contains a real superfood blend to ensure that an indoor cats needs of weight, digestion and immunity are met.
This cat food is intended for adult cats only (1 year or older). Can you believe there are even cranberries, pumpkin and dandelion greens in there?
I think Lacey eats better than I do!

You can find Nutrish Indoor Complete where you shop for your family’s groceries. This makes it so convenient as you don’t need to make a special trip to the pet store to pick up your cat food. I easily found it in the pet aisle at my local Target right at the front of the aisle.
Now let’s get to this easy tutorial in case you want to make your cat a DIY Window Seat. This came together so quickly with just a few items. Here is what I started with:
An old, chipped bar stool that had definitely seen better days! I was getting ready to throw this out when inspiration struck. Love when that happens!
DIY Cat Window Seat
- Bar Stool
- Paint
- Plywood 12″x24″
- Foam Padding
- Faux Fur Rug
- Staple Gun
I was very lucky to have an old seat cushion from a broken piano bench. This was the perfect size for this window seat.
You can easily achieve this same look using plywood and foam. I found the faux fur at the craft store and used just 1/2 yard for this project. Be sure to use your coupon to keep costs down.
First I gave the chair a good sanding to remove the chipped paint. Then I gave it two coats of a gorgeous shade of blue. It always amazes me what paint can do.
Next I covered the seat in the faux fur using my staple gun to attach it to the seat. Then I attached it to the bar stool using wood screws. Easy peasy.
I also added a little hammock to the bottom of the stool. She doesn’t quite know what to make of the hammock yet. I hung a cat toy for her to play with and just for a little interest finished it off with jute at the bottom of the legs.
You could actually cover the legs with jute to make a scratching post, but I chose to leave it. While I had the paint out, I painted an old board to match to keep her food on.

Another reason I love to use Nutrish Indoor Complete is that a portion of proceeds from each sale of Nutrish is donated to The Rachael Ray Foundation.
This foundation helps animals in need through Rachael’s Rescue. Through December 2016, Rachael’s Rescue has donated more than $17.5 million dollars to pet charities and other organizations that do good for animals.
That is incredible. I would love to hear how you spoil your cat or dog.

This is adorable. My cats love to be looking out every window and they would love to bury themselves into that fur fabric. You did a great job. I am sure she will figure out the hammock before too long!
