Supplies for Old World Santa Ornaments

Here is what you need to make your own beautiful decoupage ornaments.

How to Make Santa Ornaments

This is a very versatile craft project. The great news is you can use your creativity to make them your own. Simply change out the background paper or the embellishments to blend with your Christmas aesthetic.

Step 1. Trim the Paper

Trim the Santa image to the size that you want. I very rarely measure, but used a paper trimmer to cut the Santa graphic about 1/4″ smaller around all sides than the background paper.

I chose to use a pretty script cardstock for the background as it has an old world feel to it. But, a colorful paper would also look great. Experiment and have fun with it. That is the best part of crafting! 🙂

Secure the feature image to the background paper with your choice of adhesive. You can use a glue stick, tape runner, or mod podge.

Layering the feature image on top of background paper adds dimension to the ornament and makes the image pop.

Step 2. Add the Image to Poster Board

To make the ornament a bit sturdier, secure the layered image to a poster board, foam board, or even painted cardboard for a recycled craft.

Step 3. Embellish Ornaments

The fun part is embellishing the ornament with your choice of decorative items. I used mod podge to cover the image and then added glamour dust.

The sparkle looks so pretty, especially on the lit tree. To take the ornament to the next level, hang it with luxurious ribbon, such as narrow velvet ribbon.

This gives an elegant look and is much prettier than wire hooks.

For a final pop of bling, a large rhinestone is attached to the bottom of each ornament with a dab of hot glue.

Step 4. Decorate with Your Ornaments

Hang the ornaments on your Christmas Tree, or use them as gift tags. Either way, you have a lovely handmade craft that brings that wow factor anywhere you want a touch of vintage charm.
