Dollar Store Thanksgiving Craft

Have you heard the exciting news about the expanded craft section at The Dollar Tree?

It’s called “Crafter’s Square” and it is amazing!!

It’s basically an entire aisle devoted to all things crafty.

You know I did my typical happy dance when I first checked out this aisle.

If you want to see if your local Dollar Tree has this expanded craft section, you can search their website here and put in your zip code.

If you see the blue circle show up with CS, you are in luck and your store has this craft section:

Can you imagine how convenient and budget-friendly this will be for the holiday season?

Here are just a few things that you will be able to purchase:

  • canvas boards
  • paint rollers
  • wood blanks – (like the turkey I bought)
  • adhesive cork
  • paint palettes
  • spray adhesive

We hope to inspire you to craft and create with us and look forward to seeing you on the third Friday of every month for all things Dollar Store.

At the end of the post, you can click on the links to see the rest of the Thanksgiving inspired DIY projects.

For my project, I really wanted something classic Thanksgiving and what is more classic than a Thanksgiving turkey?

Isn’t this little guy adorable?

Here is what you need to make your own Tom Turkey:

Dollar Store Thanksgiving Craft Supplies

  • Unfinished Wood Turkey
  • Thanksgiving Ribbon
  • Fall Sunflower
  • Foam Brush

Paint Supplies

Instructions

Step 1.

Paint the unfinished wood turkey in your choice of paint. I went with a gorgeous metallic gold:

decoart extreme sheen paint

This is my first time using this extreme sheen paint and the sheen is really cool.

It is even more vibrant in person. Two coats are all you need.

Step 2.

Add a Thanksgiving quote to the center of the turkey.

I chose one of my favorite fall transfers from Chalk Couture “Let our lives be full of thanks and giving”:

Step 3.

Use the squeegee to add the chalkology paste to the transfer.

Less is more, so don’t add too much paste.

Step 4.

Slowly remove the transfer and admire your craftiness!

One thing that always amazes me with Chalk Couture is how crisp the words are. So easy to use too.

Step 5.

Add any embellishments that you like.

I didn’t want to cover the quote, so I just added a fall sunflower to the turkey and a little ribbon.

The wood sign already had a piece of twine for hanging. You can’t get much easier than that!

This is such an easy addition to your decor and if you get tired of it, you can flip it over and paint the back a different color.

Decorate it with silk flowers, ribbon, rhinestones, or even paint it in different colors that a turkey would have to make it more realistic.

Most of all, just have fun with it.

That is what I love about crafting with dollar store items.

If you mess up (though I’m of the opinion there are no mistakes with crafting) you are only out a dollar.

Oh he's too cute Michelle. It always amazes me when Dollar store products become something unique and special in the hands of a crafter.

Love this, Michelle!!! I could always use a fun craft with our kids at school and this would be perfect for next month!!! I will swing by our local dollar store and see what they have available to make. :) Happily pinned several photos and of course I had to pin your Thanksgiving tablescape to my AT Table board (I'm in this month's Pinterest Challenge with Cindy/County Road 407 and the crew and we are doing Thanksgiving tables.).

Happy fall to you and all the ladies! Oh, pinned the main pic promoting your once-a-month craft party to my Favorite Blogs and Artists board. <3

Hugs, Barb :)
