What Is A Christmas Simmer Pot?

A Christmas simmer pot is a simple and cozy way to make your home smell festive using natural ingredients gently heated on the stove.

A DIY simmer pot recipe typically includes things like dried oranges and cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and herbs, and can be made fresh or prepped ahead as a gift.

Package the ingredients in a mason jar or gift bag, then tie it with twine for a cute presentation.

These make some of the best handmade holiday gifts, especially when you include a free printable recipe tag so the recipient knows exactly how to use it.

I’m including the simmer pot gift tag and also including several ways you can gift this for Christmas.

Christmas Simmer Pot Gift Ingredients

  • Mason Jars – 12 oz or 16 oz jars are best when using dried fruit. Check thrift stores, Dollar Tree, or use empty food jars.
  • Dried Oranges – see my easy tutorial on how to dry oranges in the oven, or buy them pre-made.
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Rosemary Sprigs
  • Bay Leaves
  • Star Anise
  • Cinnamon Sticks – I had a hard time finding these in stock at local grocery stores, so I ordered a pack on Amazon.
  • Optional – add a few drops of essential oils. I used clove.

  • Embellishments to Decorate Jar – ribbon or twine

The below image is set to print 4 to standard 8.5″x11″ copy paper. I printed mine at Staples and it was 89 cents to print 2 copies on cardstock., which works best for gift tags.

Simply right click on the image and save to your computer for printing. You can also click the download button below the image to save and print.

Attach the gift tag to the mason jar with ribbon or twine. Cover the mason jar with the sealed lid and fabric if you want.

I chose to keep the lids as they were and just added a tartan ribbon around the jar and ran twine through the gift tag and secured that to the ribbon.

Ideas for Gifting a Simmer Pot Jar

There are a few ways you can gift these simmer pot kits. Of course, you can gift the mason jar with the printable tag on its own and you have a lovely and useful gift.

If you want something extra to add to it, here are a few ideas that I am using.

Decorative Bowl and Essential Oil

Gift the jar along with a pretty bowl. Do you remember the wooden bowls with pressed flowers that I made recently?

I’m including a simmer jar (with added cinnamon pinecones) with the wood bowl and bottle of essential oils in a pretty basket.

The content of the jar can be emptied into the bowl to use as potpourri. The recipient can add more essential oils as needed.

Candle Warmer Lamp with Simmer Jar

My sister bought me the most beautiful flower candle lamp for my birthday.

I’ve since gifted this to two other friends. They come in so many pretty colors with different wood tones. It is on a timer with different light settings. It’s a great gift and pretty affordable.

Here are a few of my favorites. Simply click the image and you will be taken to Amazon with my affiliate link if interested.

I tried the simmer pot kit under the candle lamp, instead of simmering it on the stove, and absolutely loved the fragrance!

Look at how pretty it is. But the smell is incredible! It seriously smells like Christmas Morning. Just add water to cover the ingredients.

Add some essential oils if you like. You will need to add water as it disintegrates.

Mini Crockpot with Mason Jar Simmer Pot

The mini crockpot is the perfect size for a simmer pot and it looks pretty on your kitchen counter. You don’t have to keep the stove on.

Gift the crockpot with a mason jar simmer pot and a bottle of essential oils. Clove or cinnamon would be a great oil to include.

These pretty colors are under $15 on Amazon at the current time. Click the image and my affiliate link will take you to the page. The mason jar should fit write in the crockpot, along with a bottle of essential oils.

Please let me know if you make your own holiday simmer pot. This is something I definitely plan to make each holiday.

My plan is to create seasonal simmer pot recipes for gifts, including Thanksgiving hostess gifts and Valentine’s Day kits.

I’m thinking cherry or strawberry would be fun for Valentine’s Day! Let me know what ingredients you would put in your DIY simmer kits.
