Skeleton in Bathtub

I’m finishing up the Halloween crafts for my bathroom and couldn’t resist making this hysterical mermaid skeleton in a bubble bath decor.

It just makes me smile whenever I see it. I’ll share a few tips for making it and you will also find a printable craft card at the bottom of this post with a step-by-step tutorial.

The best part is this bougie skeleton is made with mostly dollar store supplies, so it is super affordable.

In case you missed it, be sure to check out my Halloween ghost on toilet printable I shared last week.

Supplies

  • Mermaid Skeleton – mine is from Dollar Tree
  • Galvanized Metal Planter – Dollar Tree
  • Mini Halloween Bottle – Dollar Tree
  • Foam Brush
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Bats
  • Fabric Scrap and Flower – for head towel
  • Optional – pearls and beads

How to Make a Skeleton in Bathtub

Step 1. Paint the Oval Planter

Start by painting the oval planter with black acrylic paint. You will need a couple of coats. Spray paint will be faster, but I didn’t have any in my craft stash.

Step 2. Add filling

Place old newspaper or tissue paper in the bottom of the planter. This will save on how much poly-fil you have to use.

Add poly-fil until it is nice and full. We also added some pearls and beads in assorted colors to make it look like bubbles. This is optional, but gives it a bit of dimension.

Step 3. Place Skeleton in Bucket

Place the skeleton inside the poly-fil and be sure to cover it up so just the head, arms and tail are showing.

Step 4. Make a Head Towel

Use scrap fabric to place around the skeleton’s head to look like a head towel. I added a large flower for an extra bit of fun!

This oval shape is perfect to sit on the top of the toilet. Why not add a little humor to the bathroom? 🙂

Step 5. Add Embellishments

Extra details such as a witches brew bottle and bats on the front of the bathtub add to the whimsical craft project.

That’s all there is to it! Now you have a cute, whimsical addition to your Halloween decor.
