Welcome to Our Crafty Mom. Today I’m sharing this easy DIY Chalkboard Art that I made from a $5 Thrift Store Picture.
With it being Mother’s Day, I thought this saying was so appropriate.
I know so many Moms who say this to their kids. Here is the finished project:

This Chalkboard Art was so easy to make, but I will do a quick tutorial to show you just how easy it was.
When I go to thrift stores I immediately go to the section with the pictures.
I’m not even looking at the pictures, I want the frame! I try to find detailed frames first.
If I can’t find those, than I look for a nice, thick wood frame like this one that I used for my Chalkboard Art:
The frame had a cool patina that I thought I would keep, but once I used the Chalkboard paint it looked too dull, so I modified it.
What I love about Chalkboard paint is you can pretty much turn anything into a Chalkboard.
See the pretty mat in the frame? Always take the mat out & even the picture if you want.
We are painting the glass so we can use the mat on another project. I’m thrifty like that 🙂
Here is the Chalkboard paint I used:

I gave it a good 3 coats to ensure it was thick enough. Be sure to let it dry between coats.
Once it was dry, I used a stencil to paint the art.
I didn’t take a picture of the stencil, but it was $2.99 at Hobby Lobby.
I know I will get a lot of use out of this stencil. I plan to make some wood signs as well.
Look at this smooth finish:
I gave the frame a white wash-basically just wiping on some white paint to give it a distressed look.
See how easy that was? Basically four easy steps! Wishing all the Moms a wonderful Mother’s Day! It’s the most difficult and rewarding job ever.
Take care of you today! 🙂
