Washtub Herb Container Garden

Sharing is caring!

Repurpose an old washtub into a useful herb container garden.

A friend of mine knew I was on the hunt for an old washtub. She was at a large flea market in New York when she saw this washtub for $5! She was kind enough to pick it up for me.

I seriously cannot get enough of galvanized metal. I love the farmhouse look and this is perfect to stand up to all kinds of weather as well.

The plan was to grow my own herbs and have them in a convenient place right by the back door. I will also be adding peppermint as I like to make lavender and peppermint soaps.

The tub is very large so I was able to include a couple of my angel statues as well.

Of course, what normally happens is I start one project and it leads to another! Does that happen to you? I was at Target and saw these cute tin pails in the dollar spot.

The dollar spot gets me every time!  I painted an old board & hung the pails from the board filled with petunias. I just stood the board in the tub & secured it with rocks & soil. It fits perfectly in this little corner.

[Tweet “WASHTUB HERB GARDEN Our Crafty Mom  #OURCRAFTYMOM #DIY “] I loved this washtub herb garden so much, I made another one out of a smaller galvanized bucket for my front porch.

Looks so pretty! Just make sure you've either got drainage holes or you place the herbs in a big pot that slides into the washtub. Otherwise they might drown in a heavy rain. Thanks for sharing your project on the #HomeMattersParty

Thanks Jeanne-you are so right last year I didn't put drainage holes initially & learned quick after the first heavy rain!

I absolutely adore herbs! I love to cook with them, love the way they smell, you name it, I love it about herbs. :) This is such a cute idea. I also like how you added pots to your rain gutter down spout. Fantastic idea.

I love herbs too and there is nothing better than being able to snip your own when you are preparing dinner.
