Hello and welcome! I first started blogging in 2013. At the time, I had no clue what I was doing. I was a paper crafter and scrapbooker. All I knew was I wanted to share my creations with readers who enjoyed creating as much as I did.
As happens often, my love for creating continued to grow and expand and was no longer just about paper crafts.
After a year, I switched to Our Crafty Mom, a name my kids came up with. When their friends came over, I was usually crafting, or had activities for them that involved creating, so they would always say “your mom is so crafty”.
I love how the name came about, though at some point I may need to change it to Grandma, ha! (not yet Derek and Amanda).
I continued as a hobby blogger until 2016 when I realized I may have something long term with blogging. The passion was there and readers were responding.
So, I took the next step and bought my domain, switched to WordPress and have loved every minute of it!
One of the most important things I’ve learned over the past 7 years is, you have to stay current on social media, programs, anything new related to blogging, etc.
I’ve always loved learning and would join as many blogging groups as I could to try to keep up with the ever changing blogging world.
But, I wasn’t sure if my growth was on point, or if I was reaching the right audience.
As soon as I read about the opportunity to participate in the the 30 day challenge of the book: Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers, I immediately applied!
As I write this post, I’m about 3 weeks in, and have already learned and implemented so much. One thing I’ve always struggled with is trying to do “all the things”.
Unfortunately, some of the things are not necessarily right for my blog. It may work for others, but in the Craft/DIY niche, I have to focus on what works for my blog.
Learning what my readers want is key. Just because I like something and want to share it, doesn’t mean my readers want to see it.
If I truly want growth, I have to give my readers what they want, while still remaining authentic to what I love, and why I started this blog to begin with.
Here are 3 takeaways I’ve learned so far:
- It’s not about creating the BEST product, it’s about getting the product out there and reaching your core audience. So many bloggers and businesses fail because they can’t reach their core reader.
- By participating in this 30-day challenge, I’m learning strategies that work for me to increase my traffic, and you can too!
- In order to grow, I need to follow and learn from others who know what they are doing business wise. Russell Brunson is a Best-Selling Author, and has built a following of over a million entrepreneurs. Bottom line, he knows his stuff! But he lays it out in this book so it’s easy to read. I definitely have a short attention span (the artist in me), so I was happy when I found this book very easy to follow.
