This Fall, I am planning on participating in my first ever One Room Challenge and will be updating my master bedroom.
This is both exciting and scary! Before I tell you my plans for this room, let me show you some things I have done to the room since we moved in close to three years ago.
Master Bedroom Decorating Ideas
The room is a large space with vaulted ceilings that I absolutely love! There really was nothing that needed to be done other than move my furniture in and personalize the space.
Of course, that is what I love to do most and there are lots of DIY projects in here that I will share.
First is this DIY Pallet Door with a cool hanging Edison light, that I’m really happy with. As there are tall ceilings in this space, I felt there needed to be large pieces to fill it in.
A small picture just didn’t work and was totally lost. My plan is to make another one of these doors to hang on the opposite side of the bed so there is symmetry.
Symmetry is kind of a thing for me! Look how cool the light looks when lit. It really gives a soft glow that is perfect for reading.

Next, I hung a DIY pallet board with a Hydrangea Wreath that I made to go over the bed. After 3 years though, I’m ready for a change and looking for a large piece to hang in its place.
Maybe a sunburst mirror or pretty art work.
You see the large beam in the picture above? This is something I’m so excited to be changing out with a faux wood beam as part of the One Room Challenge.
Stay tuned for more on that! As I don’t have a dedicated space for crafting and there were two closets in this room, I turned one of them into a craft closet.
It was seriously the best thing I ever did! Someday I will have a craft room, but for now this closet is a huge help.
- Remove carpet and install hardwoods. I really think new floors will make a huge difference in this room.
- New Art Work for over the bed.
- Small Writing Desk and ghost chair (I’ve wanted one forever)!
- Reading chair and small table for the foot of the bed.
- Build another pallet door and hanging light for the other side of the bed.
- New bedding and throw pillows
- Paint dresser and sleigh bed??
- Faux Wood Beam to cover existing beam.
- Curtains for the sides of the half moon window.
After browsing Pinterest, I found a few items that I liked and put this mood board together. I’d like to stick with the wall color as it is so warm and cozy. A farmhouse style with a touch of glam is what I am going for.
The soft blues and aquas really go great with this wall color and I would like to stick with those shades. This shade below is a little more mint, but I like the style if I can find something similar in blue.

Extraordinary shadings utilized in your lord, and your DIY ventures, particularly the bed entryway and hanging light. I like the disposition board you made and I believe that a false wood bar will be a truly decent component. Anticipating your future posts!!
