See how I refinished an old, worn out dresser with Pure & Original paint.
Hello and welcome to the April Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest. This my first time participating in this contest and I am so excited! If you are not familiar with the Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest, it is a monthly contest hosted by the five ladies pictured below:
Contestants create a themed furniture project with product from the monthly sponsor. The projects are judged and great prizes are up for grabs. I am so excited to share that April’s #fabflippincontest sponsor is Pure & Original Paint :
CONTESTANTS WERE GIVEN FREE PRODUCT TO TRY IN EXCHANGE FOR THEIR CONTEST ENTRY. THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS FOR PURE & ORIGINAL PAINT. WHICH MEANS IF A PURCHASE IS MADE THROUGH AN AFFILIATE LINK, I WILL RECEIVE A SMALL COMMISSION AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU. ALL STATEMENTS AND OPINIONS ARE 100% MY OWN.
I could not wait to try out this paint. Pure & Original paints are imported from the Netherlands to the USA and are environmentally-friendly, with little to no VOC.
This is great because I was able to paint inside and there was no paint smell. We are featuring their Classico line, which is a thick, chalk-based paint. I love that it requires no primer.
While I immediately knew what piece of furniture I wanted to paint, choosing a color was another matter. The Classico line has over 130 gorgeous colors. It was so tough to narrow it down.
As the theme for April is- Pure Colors, Original Elegance, I finally decided to go with Pigeon Grey to transform the dresser in my daughter’s bedroom. Look at this gorgeous color: We bought this piece when my daughter was just hitting the age where we needed to transform her room from a “little girl” room to more of a “teen room”.
She uses this piece basically as a media cabinet to hold her DVD collection. Normally her flat screen would be sitting on top, but since she brought that to College with her I just added a few decorative items for now.
I love the bead board style to this piece and felt the color I chose would be elegance at its finest and I am so thrilled I went with this color! Here is the before picture in white:
Refinished Dresser With Pure & Original Paint
As you can see, it’s seen better days-missing a knob scratched and worn, but still a nice solid piece with plenty of storage. This is my favorite part-the reveal: What a difference, right? The paint went on like a dream and the coverage was great. I think it looks so sophisticated now. I gave it two coats of Pigeon Grey letting it dry in between coats.
It did not take long at all to dry. I actually mixed a little clear and dark wax to give it a slight antique. One thing I like to do with furniture that has drawers is to either line the drawers with pretty paper or use a bold color to paint the drawers.
Since this piece is so elegant I wanted to add a classic paper to the side of the drawers. I found this gorgeous grey and black paper and decoupaged it to the side of all the drawers as well as the cabinet doors. It is a nice unexpected touch and the colors work so well together. Look how smooth this finish is! I really think it goes perfectly with the theme of Pure Colors, Original Elegance. If you want to try this paint you are in luck because Pure & Original Paint is having a special right now!
Through the month of April, Pure & Original is offering a special promo on their Classico Paint! If you’re contemplating trying Pure & Original Classico paint, now is the time to try.
Purchase 2 quarts of Classico paint in any color for $70! (affiliate link) A little goes a long way with this paint. I did not even use a full quart for this piece.
Trust me, I have plans for the remaining paint.

I used glass knobs as I felt they added to the elegance of the piece. While my daughter is now away at College, she will be home for the Summer next month and I wanted to surprise her with a more sophisticated space.
This color is perfect for the look I was going for. I am really excited to see her face when she opens her bedroom door to see it in person!
