Budget Friendly Kitchen Update – One Room Challenge

Sharing is caring!

It’s time for the Fall 2018 One Room Challenge and I’m participating with a budget friendly kitchen update. This is the second time I’m participating and I’m really excited! You can check out my first ORC with my master bedroom reveal here.

For those of you not familiar with ORC, it is a biannual event every April and October.  For the next six Wednesdays, twenty super talented design influencers take you behind the scenes as they transform their rooms. There are also Guest Participants (bloggers) who participate and share their progress at the ORC room transformation party. We also have 6 weeks to complete a room.  This time around Better Homes & Gardens is the official media partner of the ORC! How cool is that?

FALL+2018

My daughter and I recently moved to a small New England townhouse on 3 acres of land and we just love it! It is so peaceful and quiet. The yard was the first thing that drew me to the home, but the open kitchen and dining room was definitely the second. I wanted an open space where I had room for a large farmhouse dining room table so we could have friends and family over for dinners. You can read about the dining room table that I refinished here.

Normally when you talk about a kitchen makeover, you think of ripping out cabinets and pulling up floors. Luckily, I am not doing that. The floors are a pretty pergo and they are staying. The cabinets are in great shape, but are dated. Here is a before picture:

I can just picture these oak cabinets painted white with new hardware! The walls are a pretty gray color so the white cabinets will definitely pop against the walls. I am not sure what my decorating style is, but it definitely leans towards a modern farmhouse style. You can see the no-sew buffalo check curtains here.

Here is a mood board with some ideas. Of course, as this is Week 1, this is all subject to change! A definite is the paint is a gorgeous pure white color called Casement from Fusion Mineral Paint, whom I’m happy to say I’m partnering with for this kitchen update.

I’ve also picked out the large stainless steel bar pull’s from D. Lawless Hardware. I fell in love with these the moment I saw them! I really think they will look great on the white cabinets. A huge thank you to them for also sponsoring this update. I’ve worked with D. Lawless a few times in the past and they are amazing to work with. From the ease of ordering, to the quality of the product. If you are in need of any type of hardware, I highly recommend them.

Next up, I need storage-big time! I plan to bring in a small kitchen island with room for storage. I’m also hoping to add a backsplash, though I’m not sure what I am going with yet. I really love a bold navy pattern, as I think it will really pop against the white cabinets. I’m on the hunt for 6 chairs for my refinished dining table. I’m not sure if these will be new or thrifted. But, I will know when I see them. What do you think of the cool gunmetal gray chairs in the mood board? They have the modern farmhouse look I like and they will definitely go with my table. But, I’m not quite sure how comfortable they will be. If anyone has them, let me know!

Well, that is just a sneak peek into my plans for my kitchen update. I will say to keep an eye on my instagram as I will be hosting a great giveaway from Fusion Mineral Paint! You can follow me on instagram here.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you will follow me to see the progress over the next six weeks. You definitely want to check out some of the other participants too, as there is a ton of inspiration. Have a great day!

I have a white baking cabinet that looks like a perfect match to your blue island picture. I've used it as an island, but now it is in a permanent location as part of my coffee station. I love all of the storage!
