Make adorable DIY unicorn glitter ornaments that can be personalized with Cricut Joy.
These super cute DIY glitter unicorn ornaments would make a great gift for the unicorn lover in your life.
These are for my nieces, Lori and Maggie. You can personalize them to make it even more special.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cricut. All opinions are 100% mine.
I’ve been on a crafting frenzy as the countdown to Christmas begins. My Cricut Joy has been working overtime!
If you are a crafter and have been wanting a cutting machine, but may not be ready to pull the trigger on a Maker yet, I definitely recommend the Joy.
You can read all about the Cricut Joy here. My favorite thing about it is it’s portable size. I tend to move from crafting upstairs in my craft room, to crafting at my kitchen table.
It’s much easier to carry this little guy up and down the stairs. If you follow me on facebook, you may have seen the live I did last week as part of the Christmas Craft-abration hosted by Tracey from My Sweet Home Living.
We made these adorable DIY unicorn ornaments. If you missed it, you can see the video link below:
I also have a printable tutorial at the bottom of this post to make it even easier.
Here are the supplies you need:
DIY Unicorn Glitter Ornaments
- Clear Plastic Ornament
- Polycrylic Clear Finish
- Felt
- Extra Fine Glitter
- Funnel
- Black Vinyl
- Cricut Joy
I have a couple of tips for making glitter ornaments. I’ve tried making them before, but they came out a little streaky and I wasn’t completely satisfied.
When I checked out some of the ornaments on Pinterest, polycrylic was used. I decided to give it a try and it worked great!
Just pour a small amount into the ornament and roll it around until the entire ornament is covered.
Let it dry upside down in a plastic cup. It only takes about 15 minutes, as you want the coating to be tacky, not 100% dry.
Next up, pour the glitter in the ornament and shake it until it’s fully covered. You can cover the top with a paper towel when shaking.
The glitter really adheres to the polycrylic. No streaking, or clumping. It’s definitely my favorite way to make these.
Now you decorate the ornament. I cut out adorable eyelashes using the Joy, but you can use any cutting machine.
I was able to easily pick up the lashes using the weeding tool and add them to the ornament.
Cut out two felt triangles for the unicorn’s ears and attach them to either side of the cap with hot glue. I used DIY felt roses to decorate the top of the unicorn.
You can also use rhinestones, or yarn. I also added yarn to a second ornament and I love how it looks!
The horn was made using white cardstock. You can also personalize the back of the ornament to make this a great gift.
I using the same black vinyl and the Joy to cut out letters for my niece, Lori.
Here is the unicorn I made using yarn:
The pink lashes are so cute and this one is for my 3 yo niece, Maggie. Of course both my nieces love pink and all thinks sparkly, so I know they will love these little cuties!
For the yarn unicorn, I added a “mane” to the back of the ornament for another option.
Look how pretty these look on the tree:
