Fresh And Bright Summer Mantel Decorating Ideas
For my Summer Mantel I wanted to stick with the soft shades of blue that I love and keep it fresh and bright with succulents and sea glass. This old weathered corbel that I found at a vintage market reminds me of driftwood and I love how the succulents in clay pots look against it. Doesn’t it have a beachy feel to it?
I’ve talked before about my 5 Tips For Decorating A Mantel here. I used the same process when decorating this Summer Mantel. The 5 Decorating tips I follow with any mantel are:
- Choose An Anchor
- Add Visual Weight To Each Side
- Add Filler Items
- Create Balance
- Choose A Color Scheme Or Theme
The large blessed canvas is the anchor, or starting off point. The demi johns add visual weight to each side of the mantel. The corbel and succulents act as filler items and the mercury glass candleholders create balance on each side of the mantel. The color scheme or theme of the mantel is fresh and bright with a slight beachy theme.
Mixing textures is another way to add interest when decorating a mantel. The mercury glass mixed with the chippy corbel is an unexpected and fun contrast.

Don’t forget to decorate the hearth while you are at it. The fireplace looks so pretty when you have a lit fire, but I hate looking at a black box in the Summer, so I usually place something inside. The pretty blue basket and silk flowers go with the fresh and bright theme of the mantel and I continue with succulents in the lanterns, as well as another demi john. This adds to the balance of the mantel and hearth.
Another decorating tip is to add groupings of the same items for greater impact. For example, the lanterns-though different-have a greater impact grouped together rather than shown individually. Whenever I see a lantern for a good price, I scoop it up! My favorite are the rose gold lanterns I show here.
