I’m tired of waiting for Spring weather to decorate my front porch with pretty potted plants and flowers, so I broke out the fake stuff!
When Mother Nature finally gets the memo that it’s SPRING, I’ll change these flowers out for the real deal. I had every intention of sharing my Spring front porch with pretty potted plants and flowers with lots of color.
Unfortunately, the weather has not cooperated at all! Bringing the plants in at night to avoid the frost was not something I wanted to do.
So I did the next best thing and brought out the silks! Sometimes you have to go with Plan B, right?
How To Decorate A Small Front Porch On A Budget
Our front porch is small, but I love decorating it for each season. Here are a few simple tips for decorating a small front porch on a budget.
Start with:
- Wreath or door hanger
- Bench or chair as an anchor piece
- Seasonal Outdoor Rug
- Clay pots and planters
- Seasonal accessories
First, you want to give your porch a good cleaning and remove any debris that has collected over the Winter. I couldn’t believe how many twigs were on the porch!
We live in New England and use our side entrance so I really haven’t been on the porch all Winter. Next up, you want to start with an inspiration piece.
For me, that was a pretty galvanized metal bucket.
Spring Door Hanger
When decorating on a budget, I never pay full price. Keep an eye on the sales and also, be sure to use a coupon if it is not on sale. Most craft stores will also honor competitive coupons too.
This galvanized bucket was a steal at $10. All I did was add colorful tulips and a coordinating bow. Easy peasy!
I normally hang a wreath on my door, but really liked the look of the bucket on the glass. Last year I hung up a forsythia wreath (at my old house):
Add An Anchor Piece
If there is enough room on your porch, place a bench or chair to act as an anchor piece. I used a Deacon’s Bench. The cool thing about this bench is it opens for storage, so I can store a blanket or extra pillows. You can never have enough storage!
Outdoor Rug
You guys-I fell in love with this adorable Spring rug. Isn’t the bicycle so cute? Again, this was 50% off after Easter.
Layering rugs is really on trend right now, but this space is really tight so I opted to just use one rug. If you have the room, I would definitely add a larger rug under this one.
Clay pots and planters
As soon as it warms up, I will definitely replace these silk flowers with real plants. But I will say silk flowers have come a long way. They can be pricey though. I’d rather spend that money on my planned petunias and pansies!
Luckily, I hit up the craft store when they had a 50% off sale and scored forsythia and purple flowers (not sure what they are called) for under $3 a bunch.
Purple and yellow look great together:
Clay pots are so versatile and go with any style decor. You can see how I gave these new pots an aged look here. The bunny planter was a must have from a local antique store.
It’s nice to also use unique planters if you can.
Accessories
To give a little interest to the side of the door, I added this watering can Spring banner. It really fills in this space and is a nice way to greet guests. A welcome sign would also fit perfectly here. Bring in whatever little details you have and have fun with it!

Hello Michelle, your porch is adorable with the bunny planter (I want one!) and the pots filled with flowers!!! I agree, faux flowers are looking really good these days and on-sale they are pretty affordable. Perfect when there is still worries about frost. :)
