How to Make Sweet and Sour Chicken
Heat the Oil: In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil on medium heat. If you heat too high, the batter will burn before the chicken cooks all the way through.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, pour in the flour, baking soda, corn starch & baking powder. Mix well.

Coat the Chicken: Soak the chicken in the egg & roll each cube in the flour mixture.
Fry the Chicken: Fry until golden brown, about 6 minutes turning frequently for even cooking.

Serve with Sauce: Serve with your favorite pre-made sweet & sour sauce, or make your own.
Here’s my favorite quick and easy homemade sweet and sour sauce you can make in minutes:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, whisk together pineapple juice, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and soy sauce.
- Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Stir in the cornstarch and cook for 1–2 minutes, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. It will thicken more as it sits.
