Hello! Thanks for visiting Our Crafty Mom! Today I’m sharing some tips for Spring decorating with silk flowers.
I am thrilled to be participating in Hometalk’s DIY MY SPRING Blog Hop. There will be so much Spring inspiration for all things Home & Garden in the links below.
Be sure to hop on over to the other bloggers to have a look. Like most of you, I would love to have real flowers throughout my home all the time, but let’s face it-unless you are a Real Housewife with an unlimited budget-it’s not practical.
Even if you are vigilant about changing the water daily & clipping the stems, most flowers only last a week. Don’t get me wrong- if someone wants to send me flowers I will do a happy dance, but it’s not something I include in my weekly budget.
A nice solution is to use silks. Now, I also want to point out that there is a difference in where you buy the flowers. Trust me, if you’ve visited here before you know I am a big Dollar Store fan & have made several wreaths using their flowers, but it really depends on what you are looking for.
The St. Patrick’s Day wreath I have on my door now is entirely from the Dollar Store. But if you want flowers that are impossible to tell if they are real unless you touch them, in my opinion, you need to go to the craft stores.
The good thing is at this time of year at least one of the big box craft stores will have their silk flowers 40-50% off. It is so worth the few extra bucks you will spend.
Spring Decorating with Silk Flowers
I love using forsythia stems in early Spring. Here is a wreath I made in no time:
I found the grapevine wreath at the thrift store for $2.00 & used 4 forsythia stems on the wreath. I made a couple birds nests to attach as well.
So simple & pretty! Next, I also used forsythia stems and pussy willows to fill this thrift store urn. I put the stems in a narrow vase first to give it weight, then filled the urn with newspaper.
I put a bunch of the plastic Dollar Store eggs on top-cute right? I love how these two look at my front entry:
I am a huge sunflower fan, but some of the fake sunflowers really look fake. This bunch from Michaels is the most realistic I’ve ever seen.
They are so fresh and bright in an ironstone pitcher on my dining room table:
Another fun and easy Easter idea is to fill a clear vase with peeps and then add silks to the center like I did here with pretty silk tulips:
Silk stems that are very realistic and timeless are cherry blossoms and dogwood blossoms. Again, just put them in a clear vase and they are lovely. They also make a beautiful wreath.
I just shared my Spring Mantel which showed how I used demijohn vases with cherry blossoms. Here is a close-up:
Here is another glass vase with dogwood blossoms on my buffet. They give this area color and interest:
Also, trim the stems as shown below. I forgot to do that before snapping the above picture, but it makes a big difference:
My favorite vessel to use are ironstone pitchers. I always look for them at flea markets and thrift stores. How sweet are these little pitchers with silk roses and flowers:
Here is a pitcher of wild flowers in my bathroom. Such a beautiful pop of color and just screams sunshine!
How about daisies in blue mason jars? One of my favorite-hanging from an old window in my dining room:
I am not sure what this little plant is called, but it is so realistic looking. I cut out little bunnies on my Cricut machine in vinyl to add across the pot.
The next time you are having a dinner party and think of buying those grocery store flowers, consider buying silk flowers instead. You will have them much longer!
I hope you will visit the links below for so much more Spring inspiration. I’m off to check it out myself! You can also search Social Media using #DIYMySpring

I love the little nests you made to attach to your forsythia wreath. After reading your post, I'm inspired to get out my little white pitcher and put some flowers in it. Such an easy way to add something pretty to the room. #HomeMattersParty

Hi Michelle: These are all very fresh for spring. Everything is so easy to finish. My favorite is the chicken wire cloche, You are far ahead of me getting ready for spring and gave me some great inspiration.
