How to Make Pumpkin Caramel Trifle

Step 1. Bake the cake

Start by mixing the ingredients for the spice cake. The only thing I do differently is to add a can of pumpkin puree and a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice.

Bake according to the directions and let cool.

This is the same cake I use to make my popular pumpkin spice explosion cake.

Step 2. Cut the cake

Once cool, cut the cake into cubes to fit in the mason jar.

About 3-4 pieces should be added to each layer.

You can add some caramel on top of the cake if you like.

Step 3. Make the pudding

Make the pudding according to the directions. You can experiment with different flavors of pudding.

My daughter likes it with vanilla, so that is what we used. But, they also make a pumpkin if you want to try that.

Or consider adding a dash of pumpkin pie spice directly to the pudding for an extra bit of fall flavor.

Simply add a layer of pudding over the pumpkin cake.

Step 4. Add cool whip

Now you want to add a layer of coop whip or whipped cream to the trifle.

Repeat the layers until you get to the top layer.

Step 5. Finish top layer

For the top layer add cool whip and crumble some pumpkin cake on it.

If you are planning on refrigerating the mason jar trifle to save for later, be sure to keep the top layer a little bit lower than the lid.

You can even add the top layer right before serving if it is easier. See how easy that was?
