Viral Blanket Dumplings Recipe with Pork
If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok lately, chances are you’ve seen those ridiculously easy blanket dumplings making the rounds.
They look fancy, but here’s the best part: they’re actually really easy to make!
Dumplings are my absolute favorite, but I’ve always been intimidated to make them at home.
Once I spotted this recipe, I decided to give them a try. Let me just say, I totally get the hype.
What Are Blanket Dumplings?
Blanket dumplings are basically meat filling wrapped in a piece of dough or wrapper that creates a little “blanket” around the filling.
Think of it as a fun twist on traditional Asian dumplings.
Instead of carefully folding each individual dumpling, the wrapper is draped around the filling, giving them that blanket-like appearance.
For this recipe, I’m using a savory pork filling, but there are plenty of ways to switch things up.
You could make them with chicken, beef, shrimp, or even a combination of your favorite ingredients.

How to Make Blanket Dumplings
Follow these easy steps to make your own blanket dumplings. There is also a video tutorial to make it even easier!
Step 1. Make the Pork Filling
The first thing you’ll want to do is make the pork filling.
Add the ground pork to a bowl along with the green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar.

Give everything a good mix until it’s nicely combined.
Step 2. Roll into Balls
Roll the mixture into small, 1-inch round balls & place in a skillet.
You don’t want to make the balls too large because the wrapper needs to fold or drape around the filling.
Place a wonton wrapper over each ball like a little blanket.

Step 3. Cook the dumplings
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook for 2-3 minutes and then pour water into the pan and cover with a lid to steam for 5 to 7 minutes.
The steam will cook the wrappers and the pork while the bottoms continue to get golden and crispy.

Once they’re cooked through and the liquid has evaporated, remove the lid and let the bottoms crisp up a little more.
A quick tip: because the size of dumplings can vary, don’t rely solely on the clock. Make sure the pork filling reaches 160°F for food safety.
Step 4. Top with Green Onions
Sprinkle them with optional sesame seeds and additional green onions, and you’ve got yourself a plate of seriously delicious blanket dumplings.

Add more soy sauce and chili crisp before eating if desired,
That’s it!
Nothing complicated here. Most of these ingredients are probably things you already have in your pantry or refrigerator.
You don’t have to make every dumpling perfect. In fact, part of the charm of these is that they look homemade.
Can I Use Wonton Wrappers for Blanket Dumplings?
Yes! Wonton wrappers work really well for blanket dumplings, especially if you’re making a smaller batch.
They’re thin, easy to find, and cook quickly. Dumpling wrappers are usually a little thicker and sturdier, so they can be easier to work with if you’re making larger dumplings.
If you have wonton wrappers in the refrigerator already, though, I’d absolutely use them. No need to make an extra trip to the grocery store!
What to Serve With Blanket Dumplings
These pork blanket dumplings are delicious on their own as an appetizer, but you can definitely turn them into a full meal.
Try serving them with:
- Steamed rice
- Fried rice
- Asian cucumber salad
- Steamed or stir-fried vegetables
- Edamame
- Asian slaw
- Miso soup
- A simple green salad
And don’t forget the dipping sauce!
A simple combination of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and a little chili crisp makes an amazing dipping sauce for these dumplings.
Can You Make Blanket Dumplings With Chicken or Beef?
Absolutely!
While pork is my favorite for this recipe because it stays juicy and flavorful, you can easily switch up the filling.
Chicken blanket dumplings are a great lighter option. Ground chicken works especially well with ginger, garlic, green onions, and soy sauce.
You can also make beef blanket dumplings for a richer version. Ground beef pairs really well with the same Asian-inspired seasonings.
Just keep in mind that different meats can have slightly different cooking times, so always make sure the filling is fully cooked before serving.
