Halloween is one of those holidays where you can just have fun! It’s not about spending hours in the kitchen cooking favorite family meals, or shopping for perfect gifts.
You can go out of your comfort zone and decorate with things that you might normally not decorate with-like skulls!
I’m visiting my sister in sunny Florida this week and we had so much fun putting this dollar store Halloween tablescape together.
She is not a huge dollar store shopper (gasp) and was surprised at how many cool things they had for Halloween.
My nephew is 16 yo and he even got a kick out of the Day Of The Dead theme we went with. He did say the proper name was Día de los Muertos.
Even my 4 yo niece knows all about it from the popular kids movie, Coco.
Day Of The Dead Inspired Halloween Tablescape
This Halloween tablescape came together so easily. Here is what you need:
Dollar Store Supplies
- 3 Skulls
- Black Silk RosesBlack Silk Roses
- Halloween Ornaments
- Skull Votive Holders
- 2 Black Scarf Webbings
- 4 Glass Salad Plates
- 2 Sugar Skull Tote Bags
- 4 Skull Cups
- Skull Candy Mold
- Wreath Base
- Halloween Ribbon
- White Chocolate Chips
The focal point of the tablescape are the three sugar skull inspired candle holders. Luckily my sister already had these candle holders and I just placed the skulls on top.
Just hot glue a crown of black roses to the top of each and they are transformed! If I had been home I would have hit up my paint pen stash and added color to the faces, but I’m working out of my element and used what we had available.
They look really cool, especially with the hanging mouths!
An eyeball ornament wreath was used as the base of the centerpiece and the purple adds a fun pop of color.
Here is a close up of the creepy skull complete with a large purple spider.
The two black webbing scarves make a nice table runner and add to the creepy factor.

A pair of black skeleton votive candle holders and skull cups were added to keep with the skull theme.
You have to have treats for Halloween, so I used the skeleton mold that I shared in the Witches Brew Cocktail. You can use this mold to make ice cubes or chocolate like I did here:
The sugar skull salad plates were an easy DIY using dollar store tote bags and mod podge. I show you how to make these plates but with buffalo check fabric here.
A big thank you to my sister and nephew for letting me borrow their dining room for the week! If I could fit that sea shell mirror in my suitcase, I would! 🙂
