How to Make DIY Embroidery Hoop Wall Art for Under $10!

Create beautiful DIY embroidery hoop wall art for under $10 using thrift store finds. This is a great way to add cottage charm to any room.

Thrift Store Decor Tour

For this month’s thrift store tour, I’m super excited to share a home decor project that came together with a collection of thrifted finds.

After we get to the tutorial, you can check out the links for the rest of the amazing DIY projects at the bottom of this post.

There is a local Goodwill near me that I enjoy visiting at least once or twice a month. I’m pretty strict with my budget and usually bring a $20 bill with me, otherwise things can get a little out of hand. 🙂

Some days I leave empty-handed and other days I hit the jackpot. This visit was one of those jackpot days! In fact, I found ideas for about 7-8 different projects.

First up, a collection of embroidery hoops in various sizes marked $5 and a bag of assorted ribbons, fabric trim and lace also marked $5.

But, blue happened to be the 50% off color for the day, so the total was just $5!

Next up, I stumbled upon a gorgeous floral scarf for $3. The moment I spotted this beauty, my craft idea came together. Let’s get to this easy tutorial.

Supplies for Embroidery Hoop Wall Art

• Embroidery Hoops – if you can’t find them at your local thrift store, you can easily find them at craft stores or here is a set of affordable embroidery hoops on Amazon.
• Paint – I used FolkArt chalk paint in blushed pink. Use whatever color you like or have on hand.
• Paint Brush – foam brushes are my go-to.
• Fabric – get creative with your fabric choice, mix and match colors and patterns, use felt, old sweaters, whatever you have on hand.
• Ribbon – add ribbon, lace or any other embellishments that you like, or omit this for a more streamlined appearance. I chose a pretty white velvet ribbon.

How to Make Embroidery Hoop Wall Art

One of the things I want to point out is how versatile this craft is. You can customize it for a nursery, home office, or any space in your home that you want a bit of interest and dimension.

Paint the Embroidery Hoops

I chose to lightly paint the embroidery hoops in a soft pink color, however, you can choose to leave them natural if you prefer. Allow the paint to dry.

Cut Fabric to Size

Place the hoop around your fabric choice and cut to size. If your fabric is thin, you can add a white felt backing to give it a bit more depth. The scarf I used was very thin so I included a backing.

Unscrew the top of the hoop and remove the inside hoop from the outer hoop. Place the fabric onto the inside hoop and place the outer hoop on top. Tighten the screw and trim any excess fabric.

Add Ribbon or Embellishments

For the final step, I secured velvet ribbon tied in a bow to the top of the hoop. This gives it a pretty cottagecore feel that is perfect for my bedroom.

One of the reasons the scarf stood out to me was because it had a similar style to my new bedding.
