How To Make An Adorable And Easy DIY Grinch Gnome

Learn how to make an adorable DIY grinch gnome for a fun addition to your Christmas decor.

Today I’m showing you how to make this super simple DIY grinch gnome that I shared on facebook live last week.

Like so many of you, I’ve totally jumped on the gnome bandwagon. The first one I made last year was a dollar store Christmas gnome with a pine tree.

Then I moved on to a fun Valentine’s Day gnome that was hugely popular on Pinterest. My first Christmas craft of 2020 were pine cone gnome ornaments, followed by an adorable Christmas gnome door hanger.

I’m telling you once you start making these little guys, it’s hard to stop. And now that I know you can paint the fur any color that you like, all bets are off!

Let me show you what I used to make this cute grinch gnome.

DIY Grinch Gnome Supplies

• Small Foam Cones – I found mine at Hobby Lobby in a pack of 6 for $3.99
• DecoArt Metallic Green Paint
• Red Felt
• Fabric Scissors 
• Hot Glue Gun 
• Pompoms
• Faux Fur
• Q-tips
• Kids winter hat – dollar store 

DIY Gnome Instructions

Start by cutting the faux fur in a u-shape to fit the bottom portion of the foam cone. Add a little water to the metallic paint and begin painting the fur using q-tips or makeup wedges.

You will need to paint the fur underneath as well. Once you get some paint on the fur, you can wear plastic gloves and use your fingers to coat the fur. 

Allow the fur to dry overnight, or use a blow dryer to speed up the process. Next, place the cone on the red felt and roll it until it is completely covered.

Cut a piece for the body and hot glue it to the foam.

You will need to comb the painted fur. I used a fine tooth comb from the dollar store. Secure it to the cone with hot glue.

Next, create a hat from the red felt for the top portion of the cone. Fold it around and hot glue it until it forms a nice peak.

Cut a strip of the fleece to secure to the bottom of the hat with hot glue.

Add a white pompom to the point of the hat. Finish the little gnome with a black pompom for the nose. If you see the video I used a painted wood bead for the nose, but I decided the black nose looked better.

I may have looked up a picture of Grinch to see what color his nose was!

That’s all there is to it. You can easily make a couple of these little guys in about 30 minutes.

How To Make An Adorable And Easy DIY Grinch Gnome

I'm showing you how to paint faux fur green and use it to make an adorable DIY grinch gnome, all decked with a Santa hat.

Materials

• Small Foam Cones 
• DecoArt Metallic Green Paint
• Red Felt
• Pompoms
• Faux Fur

• Kid's Winter Hat

• Fabric Scissors

Instructions

11. Add a white pompom to the point of the hat.
12. Finish the little gnome with a black pompom for the nose.
