Dollar Tree Puffy Heart DIY With Loop Yarn
I finally found the popular foam hearts at my local Dollar Tree. They have been sold out so I scooped up two and have another idea for the second one.
If you are not familiar with loop yarn, wait until you see how simple it is to use. My first time using it was when I made this loop yarn wreath for fall.
It is a wonderful time-saver for finger knitting and they have tons of beautiful colors. Mine is from Michaels, but you can find it on Amazon, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and other fabric stores.
The best thing is you only need 3 inexpensive supplies to make a loop yarn heart. So, let’s get to it!
Supplies
- Loop Yarn – one roll will make 2 puffy hearts.
- Greening Pins – no hot glue needed!
- Assorted Ribbons – or other embellishments

How to Make a Loop Yarn Heart
Another quick time-saver with this heart is using greenery picks. The cool thing is, because no hot glue is used, you can remove the yarn if you get bored and use it for something else. It happens!
Step 1. Attach Loop Yarn
Start at the bottom of the heart and work your way up. Place a greenery pin at the point of the heart and continue wrapping the heart.

Step 2. Finish Wrapping the Heart
Continue wrapping and adding greenery pins until the heart is completely covered. When you get to the top center of the heart, add an extra pin on each side so it is nice and secure.

Depending on the look you are going for, you can stop here and have a nice, full yarn-wrapped heart. Because the heart is foam, you can also create a topiary with skewers, or dowels.

Step 3. Add Embellishments
My plan was to give it a bit of a shabby chic look with pretty ribbon. Have fun with it and make it your own!
The ribbon was also attached with a greenery pin, along with a bit of sparkle from a gemstone I found in my craft stash.
This puffy heart looks so pretty placed in a wooden dough bowl. It would also look lovely hanging from a bookcase, or in a window.
